The class had started, everyone was in their seats. Their attention was focused on multitudes of things. Y/n opted to listen to the teacher, that was soon abandoned after finding a sudden interest in their pencil.
They felt a pull; Y/n didn't lookup. They knew what this pull could mean. Either there was a shadow person near, or someone with a distasteful aura had made their appearance. Neither of them were good options. Hesitantly they looked outside their window to see a book falling from the skies. It almost looked like it came from the heavens. But Y/n knew better than that. It was falling from the other side of the campus. How they managed to see the book was a mystery, and they weren't too excited to find out. Y/n looked closer to see if there were any signs of who could have dropped the book, only to be none. Right as they were about to forget what had just occurred, a shadow caught their eyes. They froze.
No, not now! Why? Why did I have to look! I should have known better; I have to look now. I have to!
Their breath grew uneasy. Y/n could feel the dead glowing eyes of the shadow peering toward them in confusion and excitement. Something familiar between each shadow when they figured Y/n could see them.
Y/n shakily rose their hand to be excused; thankfully, the teacher was nice enough to permit them to go.
Y/n ran, ran as fast as they could. Y/n couldn't look back. Y/n needed to close their eyes.
It was the only way for them to disappear. Y/n couldn't handle it anymore; it was too much, it was too early. If it were later, maybe they wouldn't be making such a fuss, but it wasn't. It wasn't. And it wasn't going away. The aura was only growing stronger when they finally reached the bathroom. Y/n locked themselves in a stall where they held their breath and closed their eyes shut. They were beginning to see white spots take their vision from how hard their eyes were closed. They could feel the shadows breathing, it was further before, but now it was near their neck. They were waiting and waiting. Y/n could only take so much that's when the shadow spoke.
"Can you see me human?" Its voice was disgusting. It felt violating hearing its voice; it was rattling in their Brain. Y/n kept silent. It spoke again.
"What a turn of events! I knew the human world was exciting!! Kekeke~ " it's laughter surrounded the space they confided in. The ratting of the voice had conquered the silence that was once comforting. Thankfully, they seem to learn of their closeness and moved away in the moment of their laughing fit.
All they could do was breathe.

1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . 4 . "Are you going to talk?" The voice was starting to sound impatient, something Y/n feared. Y/n couldn't bother to get mad at the shadow for interrupting their calming procedure. Y/n slowly looked up; they realized ignoring the shadow would be pointless.
The shadow in question was abnormal.
The shadow's face was also abnormal. Some would say it was scary. But y/n would disagree. They weren't pleasing to the eye but they held a sense of charisma. Something very unusual. Then again, this was the first time seeing a shadow this close. Y/n was almost left in awe.
The shadow began to smile, a sight they could have gone without seeing.
"So you can see me; I almost thought I was the crazy one!" Its face grew lopsided as it laughed at its joke. All Y/n could do was stay silent. It was hard processing this. If they hadn't had their power for as long as they could remember, Y/n would have busted into tears, pleading for their life. The shadow talked again.
"Soooo... What's your name? Are you human?? You look like one. But you're odd.." Y/n didn't answer but asked a question instead.
"What is a shadow- um, what are you doing so close to me? Others have never gotten this close." The shadow tilted his head. You presumed he was trying to show that he was confused. When he suddenly stood straighter.
"Others...huh.. and what are these 'shadows'? I'm what you call a Shinigami."
"...Shinigami?" They repeated
"Yeah! I know it's crazy!!! But I'd rather you call me by my name."
"Your name..?"
"Others call me,
Ryuk."

|| I know I was slightly mean to Ryuk in this chapter, believe me it pained me to do so. But it was needed. Y/n can't just suddenly like Ryuk, relationships don't work like that. Think of it a character development ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ either way hoped you liked this chapter!
