"Princess, what do you think?" I looked at Clarus then looked at the plans in front of me, trying to figure out where we were in them.
"Do you think this raid on Gralea will be successful-"
"If you have to ask me whether or not I doubt our own men and women, including my guard and my brother, then I suppose you do not support the raid." I argued with the council, who looked angered by my opinion.
"You're the princess with no claim to the throne-"
"Yet, should I die before my son returns, she will sit upon that throne and be your queen." Dad spit and the council stopped as Clarus looked at me.
"Do you support the Gralea raid, or not?" He asked and I nodded.
"Seeing as the raid is in motion, I have no choice but to go with it, but I believe many lives will be lost there. I only hope our people return-"
"You mean your immigrant lover?!" I glared at the woman, who looked scared as I slowly stood, putting my hands on the table.
"Nyx Ulric is a hero among the Glaive, and he has been my personal guard for seven years and two months! I trust the man with my life, he is my best friend-"
"I saw you two the day he left, don't pretend-"
"I pretend nothing, wench!"
"Atalie!" Dad yelled and I stopped, looking at him.
"If my daughter chooses to marry Nyx Ulric, then she has that right! As the princess, I would wish she married a man of stature, but I can't force her! Just as I can't force my son to love a woman rather than his Crownsguard!" He said and I smiled as he nodded once at me.
"You were speaking, Atalie?" He smiled and I forced a smile as I slowly sat.
"I hope our people return, Kingsglaives and the Crownsguard as well, but I know many of our soldiers won't return. And yes, I do harbor feelings for my guard, yet I recall you asking me if he was into older women." I smirked at the woman, who went red to her roots, but I sighed.
"Now, as for the safety of our city, I haven't had any ill visions of Insomnia, nor this raid, and I am to assume it is going well, that nothing bad will happen. Until then, I am personally adjourning this meeting until our next session. Have a good day." I smiled and stood, smoothing out my dress as I turned and left the war hall.
Nyx's POV
I stared into the fire as I thumbed the bracelet on my wrist, hearing the laughter of the soldiers behind the Glaive camp as they sat around eating meals five times better than what we were given."Nyx." I jumped and looked up, smiling as Prince Noctis sat next to me.
"Man, you guys have a tiny fire-"
"Immigrants don't get the good stuff, your highness." Pelna said and Noctis shook his head.
"Well, that sucks ass. Anyway, Nyx, I saw you talking to my sister before we left. What was that about?" He asked and I sighed as I stopped thumbing the bracelet, instead grabbing my left kukri and beginning to clean it.
"She just made me promise to come back, but to defeat Niflheim no matter-"
"Guys!" I looked up at Prompto then saw him holding a radio in his hand.
"-Reports are still coming in, but it appears that King Regis Caelum has become bedridden with sickness. As of now, Princess Atalie Caelum is ruling the kingdom with the crown prince away on a raid in Gralea to defeat Niflheim once and for all." The reporter's voice came over the speakers, but I looked at the prince to see him angry.
"We need to go back-"
"That's on an Insomnia channel?" Libertus asked and Prompto nodded as the soldiers and Crownsguard came to join the Hunters and Glaive.
"We have to go-"
"Noctis, you go back and they win!" I spit and he glared at me.
"I am-"
"You're half my age, boy, don't make me show you why Atalie hasn't tossed me aside yet! Your father wanted you to finish this mission, end the war by taking Gralea, so that's what we're doing! Hell, I'd love nothing more than to hightail it back home and never leave Insomnia again, but we've got people back home counting on us to finish this damn job!" I argued and saw he looked angry, surprised, and embarrassed.
"Don't make me pissed! I will not sit here and spend three weeks beyond the wall heading for enemy home just so you can turn tail and run when your dad gets sick, like he always does! He will be fine, and if he isn't, then Atalie will call you and tell you what to do! You heard that report, she is the temporary queen until you return and if she says keep your ass here, we stay and we end this bloodshed once and for all! Got it?!" I looked around the camp and everyone nodded, agreeing with me. I looked at the prince then he looked at me and nodded.
"If Atalie calls us back, we go. If she says stay, we fight in Gralea and we take these bastards out so Noctis doesn't fight his father's war." I said and everyone cheered, but I was worried. Atalie hadn't been brought up to be ruler, she probably didn't know shit about ruling that throne, but she knew exactly how to handle idiot children. I'd seen her rule that Citadel from the sidelines for seven years, I just hoped ruling the entirety of Insomnia wasn't too much on her. Or worse, she got a vision while on the throne.
"Nyx, do you really think we can do this?" I looked at Crowe and sighed.
"Not all of us will come back, but we're going to do the best that we can no matter what. As long as Gralea falls, then we've won." I said and she nodded, laying her head on my shoulder as people thought about home and Gralea.
