I smiled as the trucks rolled in, my dad standing next to me with the council behind us. All around the Citadel, countless citizens had come to witness the return of the heroes.
"Calm down before you break your heels." Dad whispered, making me glare at him in a playful way.
"You're evil." I laughed and he grinned as Noctis came up the steps first with his Crownsguard.
"Noctis!" I smiled and hugged my baby brother, making him grip me tightly.
"Save some hugs for the one you want." He said and let go, immediately going to dad to hug him tightly as the crowd erupted in cheers.
"Would you look at that?" I looked over then grinned as I saw my friends walking towards me.
"Damn, throne life changed you!" Crowe laughed, making me smile as I went down to hug her.
"And the battle scarred you." I said and stepped back, thumbing the bandage on her exposed shoulder.
"Spoils of war." She shrugged, wincing as she gripped her arm.
"I ought to smack you." I said then hugged Libs and Pelna. As Nyx came up, the stone in my stomach disappeared.
"I uh, I lost it in Gralea-"
"I don't care!" I said and hugged his neck tightly, feeling his arms wrap around me.
"I was so worried you wouldn't come back!" I breathed and felt his arms tighten on me.
"Ahem." I let go then looked at dad, who eyed Nyx.
"I'll admit, I wish you were someone of money or stature, but I can't change that. As long as you make her happy, I don't have to beat you with my cane." He said and Nyx smirked as he held my waist.
"I think she'll beat you to it, sir-"
"Regis." I looked at Cor then he smiled at me.
"Princess. King Regis, you asked me to find a captain for the Kingsglaive, someone worthy of leading them and someone who won't run away from a fight. I believe the man for the job has been here the entire time." Cor said and looked at Nyx, making me stare up at him with wide eyes.
"I am asking you to make Nyx Ulric the new Kingsglaive captain, as he led the raid perfectly. We would have lost more or entirely had he not led us." Cor said, but Nyx swallowed hard as he looked at my father.
"Atalie." I looked at my dad then he sighed.
"Do you believe Nyx is worthy-"
"I believe I'm biased, dad." I laughed and he smirked.
"Maybe, but it was your biased opinion that saved the Immigrant District, was it not? It was your biased opinion that saved our city, our entire kingdom, and your brother's life. Am I wrong?" He smiled and I licked my red painted lips.
"I-I think that, yes, Nyx would make a perfect captain, but he's also a man of the people. He'll hate being away from his District and the people there-"
"Then, why don't we build a Kingsglaive building there? You were working on the housing and schools, yes? Is there space for a new building?" He asked and I felt actually nervous as my friends eyed me, probably wondering what I had done to their home.
"Dad, I- there might be, next to the new high school, but-"
"Wonderful! I am nominating you official representative of the Immigrant District! Now, I have a speech to deliver!" He grinned and went to the podium as I looked at my friends.
"The hell have you done to our home?" Libertus asked and I nervously smiled.
"I-I'll show you afterwards, I promise." I said and pulled away from Nyx, going to stand with Noctis and my father by the podium.
"People of Insomnia!" Dad smiled and stopped as the people cheered, silencing them a few moments later.
"Thanks to the valiant courage of the Kingsglaive, the guards, the Hunters beyond the wall, and my son and his Crownsguard, Gralea has fallen! From this moment on, Niflheim is not our enemy, as the war is over! And thanks to my wonderful daughter, who stood in for me while I was sick, our city stayed safe and even the Immigrant District became so much more than a shunned part of the city!" Dad smiled and grabbed my shoulder, giving me a big smile.
"As of this moment, my beautiful daughter will be the representative of the Immigrant District! She will handle all of it's affairs, complaints, reconstruction, everything! If you feel she isn't doing a good job, I'm sure the king, my son Noctis, will be happy to assist you!" Dad said and I stared at him, understanding what his words meant.
"From this day forth, I am stepping down as king and Noctis Caelum will be your new king! I do hope he knows what he's doing!" Dad smiled and I turned, hugging him tightly.
"Before I forget!" Dad said as he made me let go.
"I know all of you have been wondering about the Kingsglaive and their new captain, and I am here to tell you that we, the ruling council and myself, have elected Nyx Ulric to be the new captain of the Kingsglaive thanks to his leading the raid against Gralea and his heroic acts with the Glaive. Never once has he run from a fight, nor left someone behind if he could help it. For the last seven, almost eight years, he has defended and guarded my daughter in ways not even the Citadel guard could, and for that I am grateful." He finished and everyone cheered as Nyx was given a captain's coat to wear. I smiled as he came towards me then he offered me his hand.
"Would you be so kind as to show us where the new Kingsglaive building will be?" He asked and I smiled as I took his hand, our friends following as he escorted me to the car.
"Hey, Atalie!" I turned to Noctis, but rolled my eyes as he wiggled his eyebrows at me. I got into the car and scooted over to give the four Glaives space.
"To the Festival Square, please." I instructed and the driver nodded, leaving the Citadel.
