Three Years Before The Fall of Insomnia
"Princess, please, he is in a very important-" I slammed the doors to the throne room open, the guards turning to me as Nyx walked a few paces behind me.

"Atalie, this had better be-"

"You're shipping Nyx out?!" I growled and father sighed as his 'important meeting' was put on hold. It looked like he was meeting with some people from the Immigrant District, but I wasn't in the mood to care.

"He is a Kingsglaive-"

"Who is assigned to me, to protect me as he has done for the last four and a half years!" I growled and stood on the small platform beneath his throne.

"Atalie-"

"I dealt with you naming Noctis heir, I allowed you to treat him as your favorite without fuss, I even let you assign me a guard to protect me all day, but I will NOT sit here and let you ship him away simply because you don't have the man power otherwise-"

"ATALIE!" Father bellowed and I stopped, glaring up at him.

"Yes, he is your guard, but he is a Kingsglaive first and foremost! He is one of the strongest in the Kingsglaive, so I am sending him to lessen the loss of our life! If you have such an issue, you shouldn't have picked him-"

"YOU PICKED HIM WITH FOUR OTHERS FOR ME TO PICK FROM!" I screamed, stopping as Nyx grabbed my arm. The touch didn't go unnoticed by anyone in the room.

"Princess, please, calm down." He whispered and I took a deep breath, glaring up at my father.

"You can't send him away-"

"You have no say in the matter, Atalie. He will be your guard once more when he returns, you will have Citadel guards until then. That is enough on the subject, am I clear?" He asked, but I didn't respond as I turned and stormed out of the throne room with Nyx hot on my heels. I didn't stop either, not until I was in the gardens sitting on the stone bench.

"Atalie-"

"He can't send you away!" I cried, Nyx holding my shoulder as he sat next to me.

"He's the king, he can do what he wants-"

"Well, I hate it!" I cried, looking at my best friend.

"I hate it too, but I'll come back. All parts of me attached, I promise." He smiled and brushed my hair back behind my ear.

"You'd better!" I cried and hugged his neck tightly, laying my head on my arm as he hugged me.

I watched as Nyx climbed into the Kingsglaive truck, looking back at me as he smiled. I smiled and waved back to him, the Citadel guards assigned to me standing just behind me.

"He'll be back, Princess-"

"Don't talk about Nyx, don't talk to me unless spoken to, don't address me as 'Princess' or 'Atalie, only 'Princess Atalie', and don't piss me off." I said and turned, storming back into the Citadel with them hot on my heels. The entire three months Nyx was gone on his mission with the Kingsglaive, everyone was walking on eggshells around me and I was happy to know even my father was learning how much my best friend meant to me.

"Princess Atalie, have you had another vision?" Clarus asked as we sat in the war hall, though he swallowed hard as I cut a glare at him.

"No, Clarus, I haven't had a vision in over four months." I said and smirked as I twirled the little Insomnia flag figurine between my fingers.

"Right, of course!" Clarus said and dad cleared his throat.

"Atalie, you-you don't have to be here-"

"Where else would I be, father?" I smirked and threw the figurine down the length of the table, standing and leaving the war hall anyway. As I walked down the hall, my new guards followed three steps behind me. I've had over a dozen new guards in the last three months, another headache gifted to my father by me.

"Princess Atalie?" I glared at the guard and he squeaked, but cleared his throat.

"The-the Kingsglaives have returned to the city." He whispered and I felt my heart jump.

"Take me there. Now!" I snarled and we went to the garage, the duo driving me to the Kingsglaive building. As I got out of the car, I went straight for the unloading bay and looked around for his ribbons I had sewn onto his jacket.

"Looking for someone?" I grinned and turned, seeing his bright grin as I hugged him.

"Told you I'd come back-"

"Three months, Nyx!" I breathed, hugging his neck tighter as he held my waist.

"I'm sorry, there were more daemons than we had thought." He said and let me go, making me step back.

"I'm just happy to have you home-"

"I hear all of the Citadel will be happy to have me back by your side." He grinned and I smirked.

"I had to make them pay for sending you away somehow." I said and he shook his head, throwing his arm around my shoulders as we left, going towards the car. As we got outside, the Citadel guards who brought me visibly sagged and looked at Nyx like he was an Astral.

"Welcome back, Mr. Ulric."

"You boys head off, I've got her." He said and the duo eagerly ran into the building as Nyx eyed me.

"What did you do to them, Atalie?"

"Made them regret sending away my best friend." I grinned and got in the car next to him, letting him drive home so he could wash up, relax, and get some real food.

"How many did you go through?" He asked and I sighed.

"Over a dozen. None of them felt right, like with you-"

"It was only temporary-"

"Or forever if you didn't come back." I argued and he sighed as he reached over, grabbing my hand as he drove.

"I'm back, all parts of me, and I'm sure the king will think twice before sending me off again." He said and I grinned as I knew, my father most certainly would.
