Jack had put Siren on mandatory bedrest while she recovered, and would only let her get up to use the bathroom. She was cautious of staying with these boys at first, and still was a bit skiddish around them, but she warmed up to them reletively quick and was even starting to make jokes with them.
Jack also made sure that at least one other newsie was with her in case anything happened, and the boys always argued over who got to watch her. Tired of the same argument, Jack shouted over the noise.
"WHY," he paused until all eyes were on him, "don't we's let Siren pick fer once?"
In sync those same eyes turned to the girl in question.
"Uhh, it's ok, you's don't hafta do that.." she trailed off quietly.
"Nah, I'm sick of hearing these idiots, it's up ta you girly."
Siren started playing with a strand of hair and looked around the room nervously, her eyes landing on Jack.
"Then can you stay today?"
He was shocked at first, but nodded. The other newsies groaned but left nonetheless, yelling about carrying the banner.
"Why me?" Jack asked once the room got quiet.
Siren shrugged, "I haven't gotten ta talk ta ya much since you saved me, thank you by the way."
"Course, wasnt gonna leave you's out dere now was I?" He chuckled.
"Can I eva repay you?" Jack turned to see Siren looking glum, as if she expected him to tell her to get out.
"Why don't ya come be a newsie wit us and we's can split the profits as business partnas, 70-30."
Siren looked at him in disbelief, "you's wantin me to stay?"
Jack nodded, "shore we'll gotta get ya somewhere ta sleep but yeah, you's can stay. You'll need this though." He smacked a discarded cap on her head and pulled it in front of her eyes. She laughed and adjusted the cap to fit properly.
"Ok, but make it 50-50."
"60-40 and you's got yaself a deal."
Siren smirked, then spat in her hand and held it out. "Alright, deal."
Although taken aback slightly, Jack smirked right back her, spat, and shook her hand.
"Deal."
