Jack and Siren spent the rest of the day getting an old room that was being used for storage rearranged into a place Siren could sleep in. Well, rather Jack did most of the rearranging, while Siren sat on the floor, huffing at Jack for not letting her help. She was still on mandatory bedrest, even if it wasnt in bed. She still tried to help by pointing out where things could go and lightly pushing boxes near her towards Jack. It took a couple of hours to get the room to have, well, room, and another hour to fix a broken bunk they found well enough to no longer be a hazard to sleep on, but regardless it was done and Siren had a place to stay.
"Yous really didn't hafta do all this for me, I coulda just taken a blanket and slept on the floor," she muttered while playing with her hair, then chuckled, "woulda saved ya alot of back pain. Shoulda heard y'self dere old man."
Jack feigned offence with a dramatic gasp and hand flying over his mouth, "how dARE you, makin fun of the elderly like that! Why I outta-" He hunched over an invisible cane and shook his fist in the air, making Siren bust out laughing. Jack joined in and soon they both were wheezing messes on the floor. She was clutching her sides from the laughter until she winced in pain. Her stomach got more than its fair share of exertion and began to ache, irritating her mending wounds. Jack noticed and quickly calmed down, reaching her side in a moment to check on her.
"Prob'ley shouldnta done that, yous doin ok dere girly?"
Siren nodded and tried to get up but was quickly set back down by a strong hand on her shoulder.
"No no no yous aint gettin up just yet, gotta give it a minute ta make shore you aint messed up ya wounds 'r anything."
"Then can I 'least wait in the bed? I's been on this floor fer too long." Siren sighed out facetiously. To her surprise, however, Jack gently picked her up, careful of her injuries, and carried her back to the newsies room where she has slept for the last few days.
"Y'know I meant the one in the udda room, right?" She scoffed lightly, an exasperated smile playing at her lips.
"And risk da thing fallin on ya?" Jack laughed. "Wes can wait fer that ta happen afta yous healed up."
Siren raised an eyebrow, "I thought you said it wouldnt do that."
"Yea well don't trust my handiwork, I aint no carpenter."
She giggled at that, and the two fell into easy conversation until her eyes started drooping and her sentences trailed off. At that point Jack just tucked her in and let her rest, enjoying the rare quiet of the moment.
