"Bye guys! I'll report back tomorrow!" Eldra called out, to which her friends replied, all but Sam.
"You ok there?" Tucker nudged the goth, who was intently watching the door.
"I'm gonna follow her" she simply said.
Both boys looked at her, then each other in shock. "Why?" They said simultaneously.
"Something just doesnt feel right, are you coming with?"
She was halfway through the door before the boys decided to come with, and then they were off to find their friend.
After half an hour of quietly following and hiding (thanks to Danny), the three friends came to a halt as Eldra walked into a back alley at the edge of town. Danny once again turned his friends invisible and they walked into the damp and dark space.
Each noticed a different thing first; Tucker, the flipped over dumpster with the lids propped up by branches, Sam, the garbage bags of belongings, and Danny, the sleeping bag in the corner laid out. But then all eyes landed on Eldra, crawling out from inside the dumpster, now dressed in ratted sweatpants and a threadbare tee, tying her hair in a loose bun. As she dug out a jacket from the garbage bag, balled it up and used it as a pillow when she got into the sleeping bag, the three of them came to a single conclusion.
She wasnt brushing off Sam because she had a weird home.
She brushed her off because she didn't have a home.
