No amount of preparation could have prepared me for the scene that beheld me.

"Mom?" I weakly call out

My voice alerts my mother of my presence.

"Haley, what are you doing here?" The older woman whispers as she hurriedly urges me out of the hospital room

I feel my eyes begin to tear up as she closes the door behind her, effectively cutting off my visual of my mom.

"W-What's wrong with her?" I ask my mother as fear consumes my body

The image of my mom appearing deathly pale on the hospital bed flashes in my mind.

Her eyes were shut, but the consistent beep of the heart rate monitor told me that she was still alive.

She looked weak, as if she has not eaten in weeks.

Due to her being so pale her under eye bags are deeper than ever.

Her brunette hair tied up in a matted, messy bun.

"I-Is she dying?" I am unable to stop myself from asking

When my mother does not immediately respond to my question my heart falls from my chest to the floor beneath me.

"Oh my god!" I gasp out, my voice cracking

My mother tries to reach out to me but I step away from her as a singular tear exits my one of my eyes.

No!

This cannot be happening!

My mom is not dying.

She is not dying!

"Haley, wait-" my mother tries to say

I shake my head at her.

"Mom isn't dying," I declare with a glimmer of hope, my voice cracking

My tears begin to exit my eyes more frequently.

"Mom c-can't die" my voice cracks as I begin to full on sob

My mother takes this as her chance to approach me.

The older blonde gently wraps her arms around my shoulders, noticing the ice pack on my wrist.

I do not fight it anymore as I rest my head on her shoulder, one of her hands running through my undone hair.

Weird.

I do not get any flashbacks when she touches my arm.

Images of certain memories flash in my head like a silent movie.

A 'scene' of Alexis picking me up for the fashion show then fades to a video of her yelling at me to find the rest of her costume.

An image of my mom and I laughing at brunch then fades to a video of her and I fighting over where I am going for college.

A video of me walking the catwalk with a freeing smile on my face then turns into a video of Alexis squeezing my wrist so tight that I scream out in pain.

I flinch at this memory which goes unnoticed by my mother due to me violently sobbing in her arms.

A video of Ruby and I laughing at something fades to a video of her and I sitting in a holding cell at a jailhouse.

A video of Farrah placing a Prom Queen crown on top of my head fades into an extremely distorted video of her and I leaning in to kiss each other.

The video is so distorted that she looks like...Phoenix?
