I walk through the halls with my head down low, ignoring the whispers and pointed fingers. Kieran threw his arm over my shoulders, leading me towards his football friends as my guards followed me with scowls. Silver trotted at my side happily but watching to make sure I didn't have a panic attack. We come to a stop in front of his friends, and I watch as he lets me go to talk to them. I back up slightly, bumping into one of my new guards, Damon. He chuckles, setting his large hands onto my shoulders with a gentle squeeze.

"Careful, Mrs. Boss. We don't want you to get hurt now." He peers down to give me a gentle smile. I clutch Silver's leash tighter, nodding.

"Okay." I whisper, biting my lip in fear as people shoved their way past my guards who made a half circle around me. Kyle gently lifts my bag over my shoulder, holding it in his tan hand.

"Boss said that you were to be taken to and from class, that one of us had to be in your class at least, and that we were to make sure you eat and drink enough as well as don't carry your own things." He reminds me for the fifth time today. I roll my eyes with a sigh, letting him have this one.

It's been two months since Jay left for college and we haven't been able to see each other at all yet outside of school. So, I busy myself learning all I can about the gang and having Alan teach me how to run it until Jay can come back. I sigh as Kieran's friend, Will, turns to me with a grin.

"Hey, Dawn. Where's your boyfriend?" He asks, winking. I roll my eyes. Freshmen.

"In college. And where's your girlfriend? Oh, right! She's nonexistent!" I snap, turning and walking towards my first class.

"Oh, burn!" Kieran and his other friends snicker. I huff, barely noticing when Silver circles me as I walk to make sure no one got too close to me. My guards converged on me, making sure people stayed out of my way as I made my way to the classroom door.

The shrill bell has everyone scattering towards their class, making my guards make a tight circle around me. I sigh, biting my lip as Kyle opens the classroom door and ushers me into the full classroom. I slump into my seat, Silver sitting beside me with her head on my lap to help keep me calm. I absentmindedly stroke her grey-black silky ears as class starts.

Let the torture begin.

I sit at lunch, picking at what I was eating. I toss a bit of meat I packed for Silver down to her, letting her eat. A group of girls pass, all new. They moved here from their old high school because it caught on fire and burned to the ground. All the kids had to be moved to new schools, and we got the meanest of them all.

"I heard that a guy used to go here! I think his name was Hayden and he had a girlfriend, but she got killed because he was a very bad guy and bad people wanted him to suffer!" A blonde bimbo gasps at what her friend said as they stop and huddle close together.

"I heard he killed himself because of the guilt." Another remarks, I roll my eyes as I clench my fists together. They continue to gossip before I stand up and spin around to them.

"For your information, his name isn't Hayden. It's Jayden. Second, I'm his girlfriend and I was kidnapped by my ex. Jayden isn't a bad guy. And Jayden is just fine and very much alive, thank you very much! Thirdly, I didn't die... I killed my ex to get away from him." I spit, grabbing Silver's leash and walking out of the now silent cafeteria. My guards stand up quickly, following me out with concerned looks. I slump to the ground outside, burying my face into Silver's fur.

She sets her head atop of mine, nuzzling me as I hide. "Mrs. Boss?" Damon asks softly. I take in a shuddering breathe, squeezing my eyes shut.

"I'm fine. Just forget about it." I whisper hoarsely, composing myself as I turn and give them a fake smile. They raise an eyebrow simultaneously, crossing their arms. I slump my shoulders with a sigh. Busted, I think wryly.

"Look, I'm fine. I just don't like people talking about what happened and gossiping about it." I shrug placidly, Kyle sighs.

"Sorry, Mrs. Boss. We'll talk with the Principal and we'll stop them when we can." Kyle informs me, I shrug.

"You don't have to do that." I murmur, studying the grooves and cracks of the stone porch. A hand is held down to my face. I look up, seeing Tyler giving me a wink with a smile.

"Up you go, Mrs. Boss! Keep a smile on that face and I'll bring any ice cream or candy you want." He laughs as I instantly smile with a giggle, clasping his hand as he helps me up. His rich brown skin glistened in the afternoon sun, his amber eyes sparkling with humor like it always is. The bell echoes dully around the school building.

"Let's skip the rest of the day and have some fun." Leanna proposes, my last bodyguard of four. She was the only girl, but she was the best fighter. I nod with a bright giggle.

"Okay!" I instantly agree, much to their shock and amusement. I grab Leanna's hand, dragging her to the large SUV that Jay bought me. It was a dark blue with black accents, the interior was entirely black, and the windows were so darkly tinted it was almost illegal.

With laughter, my bodyguards trail after me as I excitedly unlock the doors and jump in. They knew my only rules for them being my bodyguards were that I was to drive, I would cook for them, and that if I needed them to back off they had to leave until I was ready.

"Let's get this show on the road!" Tyler shouts, making everyone burst into laughter. I turn on my music full blast, rolling down all the windows as I gun it out of the school parking lot. Let's have some fun.
