Jay's POV
I sigh as I walk in pain down to the kitchen. The whole place I was in was too big to be considered a mansion, it was like a palace. Five libraries, two huge offices, the hugest master bedroom I've ever seen, and the normal bedrooms were as big as normal master bedrooms.
Too many rooms to count. A personal theater room, a game room, a work out room, huge kitchens, two pools, huge windows, skylights on the top floor, terraces, and a way to get onto the roof. This place had it all.
But it felt empty. Everything was decorated and organized by an interior designer. It felt cold. It didn't have Dawn. Or Emmie and her laughter. Or Kieran who was always busy helping and bringing friends home. I didn't have my Sunshine here. My family wasn't here.
I held my arm around my stomach and side, wearing no shirt as my entire midsection was covered in white wraps with a blood seeping out from my side. The bullet missed everything important. I was counting my blessings for the moment, because part of me wanted to just grab my family and run away from this.
The mafia. The gang. Life. Just run away. But I know I could not do that. Dawn wouldn't want her life to be like that. And I don't want her life to be like that. We'd be miserable.
I feel like shit knowing I hurt her last night. When she fell asleep, Elliot called me yelling about how she practically cried herself to sleep. I pull my phone out, biting my lip. Should I call her?
I stare down at my phone screen, my thumb hovering over her name. Slowly, I click it. I hold it up to my ear, nervously rocking on my heels. I hear a click, but complete and total silence on the other line. Then I hear a sniffle.
"Dawn, my love. I am so sorry." I whisper hoarsely. She just sniffles, waiting to hear more.
"Yes, I got shot. A rival gang and Mafia joined together and tried to assassinate me before I could even make good decisions. I didn't want you to know because I knew you'd worry and ask me to come home, my love. Please, I am so sorry. I wasn't angry at you, but myself because I should have been more alert." I explain, still no response.
"I love you so much. You are my life. My world. And if anything were to happen to you, I would die. I want to marry you. I want you to be mine until the day we die. You are my forever. And I will never forgive myself for not treating you with the respect you deserve, my Queen." I passionately confess.
"I love you too, Jay." She whispers. I smile softly, relaxing.
"I'll be home soon, my love. Don't worry. I'll make it home safe." I softly speak. She sighs.
"I'll always worry, Jay. And no matter what you say, I'll continue to worry about you. I care about you and love you with all my heart. And if you're hurt, I want to be there to help you. The next time you get hurt, I'll be at your side as soon as I can." She informs me firmly, leaving no room for argument. I smile, happiness consuming me like a fire.
"Okay, Love. I promise to tell you if I ever get hurt again." I swear. She sighs, finally content and relaxed.
"Thank you. That's all I ask." Dawn whispers, I laugh softly. Alonzo walks in with ten other men.
"We need to talk, Jayden." Alonzo glares at me. I scoff, glaring back.
"Dawn, I love you. I'll call you when I'm done with this." I say, she yawns over the line.
"I love you too." She whispers just before I hang up. I throw my phone into my pocket, glaring at the men.
"Alonzo, I'm in charge around here. If anyone should be taking to anyone, it should be me talking to you about the poor guards. They suck! My gang could do better." I spit, Alonzo laughs bitterly.
"I'm trying to make sure you run this place properly!" He growls angrily. We come face to face, both angry.
"I'm your boss. Stand. Down." I lowly rumble, he stares at me hard.
"Make me." He answers. In seconds, I stab him in the gut and have him in a chokehold.
"I can replace you, Alonzo. Disrespect me one more time, and I'll kill you." I growl into his ear, He twists out of my hold and punches me directly on my wound. Wincing, I grit my teeth. I pull out my hidden gun, shooting Alonzo in the shoulder. He stumbles back, holding his shoulder as blood poured from his body. Fingers coated in blood, dripping to the floor.
