I cheered from the stands as Kieran tried out for football. They lost a few players and they needed someone to step in for the rest of the season. Emmie and her friend John were running up and down the bleachers. I cast my eyes over them, checking in on them. Emmie squealed with laughter as John chased her, but you could tell he was holding back.
Suddenly, he reached forward and wrapped his arms around her waist to stop her. Flushing her against his chest as he spins around. I smile, it was perfect young love. Anyone could tell. "Emmie! John!" I call, they perk up. John's hold loosened, letting Emmie race towards me. He follows her with a bright smile, his eyes never leaving her figure even as he comes to a stand beside her.
I crouch down, giggling at Emmie's excited face. "Yes, Dawn?" She asks, bouncing on her heels. I press a kiss to her forehead.
"How would you two like to go down to the vending machines and buy yourselves some snacks and water? No soda or I will make sure John can't stay the night tonight." I warn, John nods quickly.
"Yes, Ma'am! I'll make sure Emmie gets the water she needs!" John agrees, I smile widely at them as Emmie blushes. She hides behind a curtain of her long, blonde curls. John chuckles quietly.
"John!" Emmie whines, he shakes his head with a broad grin.
"Ms. Parker said that you need water and you'll get water." He fake scolds, she sticks her tongue out at him before darting away. I hand John a twenty-dollar bill, nodding to him with a smile.
"Go ahead. Damon, keep watch over them please." I raise my voice, as I look back at my guards. They were sitting two rows behind me, giving me the space that I asked for. Damon nods, standing up and following John down the bleachers. Emmie had stopped at the bottom, waiting impatiently for her friend to meet her down there.
I watch with adoration as John slings his arm over her shoulders, tucking my little sister against his body. He shielded her with his body as they walked past the football practice, him standing on the side closest to the busy field with her on the other side of him.
His rich brown hair shone in the sun and his tan skin was a dark contrast to Emmie's angel-like features. If their friendship lasts, I'm sure they would one day become a couple. Silver whined, looking up at me with her tail wagging. "Go ahead, Silver. Off duty." I say, she jumps up and races down to meet the kids. I giggle, sitting down and watching my brother try his hardest to get this position on the team.
He was already sixteen, and he grew a lot over the past couple months. He was even taller, he was broader, and he was gaining that muscle mass that was needed for football. I think he hit his last growth spurt and he was finally maturing enough to be an adult. He signed himself up for AA meetings and drug addict meetings, so he can get past this part of him.
He was finally getting himself together. Emmie was a little bundle of joy, always running around and leaving laughter wherever she goes. Her curls were more loose now and slowly straightening out naturally with her glittering aqua eyes wide with curiosity. And I was finally relaxing a bit more at this school, although the leader that shot up the school got away a few weeks ago. He was in hiding, and I had a feeling Jay angered him. I sigh, leaning my head on my fist as my eyes tiredly close.
I was up all night finishing up a project for my history class and I had to deal with Emmie having another nightmare just as I finished my project. Then Alan called me at four this morning, just as I had fallen asleep, and ranted about everything that has happened this week and how we need to start sending some of our people to Italy because the Mafia is sending people over to meet me this coming weekend and stay here until Jay sends them back.
