Chapter 28

Arlo walks the halls his mind wondering from question to question regarding Rei's death, and Remi's motive behind her fixation with EMBER. As he starts making connections his fists start to tremble with anger as he rounds the corner. He steps to the side and watches as Josephine runs past him. What is she in such a rush for? his gaze catches the glimpse of tears on the edge of her eyes.  She disappears around the corner, he steps back into the center of the hall that he was walking, Why did she look like that? he shrugs and continues walking, but is soon bumped into from behind he glances to the side. John standing beside him.

"What do you want now?" Arlo asks.

"Meet me on the roof in 15 minutes." John orders as he continues walking down the hallway, Arlo resumes walking to have Seraphina walk behind him.

"Arlo." she says, he glances over his shoulder Sera's arms crossed, What is it this time? 

"Seraphina, what's with the long face?" he asks coming to a stop once more. "Had a bad morning?"

"I know what you did Arlo."

"I'm gonna need you to provide some context." he responds.

"John told me everything." she states, "About how you deceived him, dragged him out, and humiliated him. You've destroyed him!"

"Destroy? What the hell are you talking about?"

"Stop acting dumb." she says.

"And what did Josephine have to say?"

"She said you lied, and then hurt her because she was protecting John from a one sided beating." she explains, at least Josephine's take was more honest, as for John. That bastard sold me out! "I'm warning you, if you go anywhere near John and Josephine I will end you." Arlo remains quiet. 

"Is that clear?" Sera said she glares at him before turning on her heel and walking away. Arlo grit his teeth as he made his way toward the roof. He opened the door expecting to see Josephine by John's side but she was no where to be found.

"What took so long?" John demands, "You're late."

"Late my ass, I'm not some slave you can call upon whenever you feel like it." he states, "That's where Josephine comes in."

"And yet here you are." John says once again completely disregarding the mention of Josephine.

"Seraphina flagged me down!" he states, "I put all of this effort into keeping this secret for you and you go and snitch on me just like that. What's worse is that you, unlike Josephine's description, didn't have a single ounce of truth to what really happened! And now she's got it out for me!"

"Good, you deserve it after everything you've done." John says, "I saw Sera in the infirmary today. She came in with a head injury."

"So?"

"I thought I told you to keep her safe! So why was she hurt?" John demands.

"You're joking. Don't tell me you expect me to watch her every move." he says, "If you ask me Josephine would be a better choice since she's a girl and their both in the dorms."

"I can't rely on that bitch, after all she's the reason why Sera was hurt."

"Then why bring it up with me then?"

"Because you don't have anybody to call friends, and besides I already ordered her to be with Sera 24/7 from now until Sera's ability comes back."

"You realize Josephine is a person too right."

"Your point?"

"Asking someone to watch someone else 24/7 is asking to much don't you think. People like spending time with others and having that human connection."
