When Joyce opened her eyes, she was confused why her pillow was warm and fuzzy. Then she remembered that she was lying on Hopper's chest. Hopper. God, she loved him. He was so amazing.
After staring at Hopper sleep for a while, his eyes began to flutter open
"Morning." He smiled, his blue eyes glistening
"Morning, cutie." She kissed him on the lips and stared at him for a second. God, he really was cute
"W-What?" He asked nervously. She realized she had been staring too long
"N-Nothing. You're just-really cute." She muttered, blushing
"Thanks. You too." He smiled back
"Joyce? Jim?" A knock on the door made her jump, then she remembered it was just Murray "Are you guys getting up?"
"Yeah!" Hopper yelled back. After Murray walked away, he chuckled and said in his cheeky but cute manner, "Guess we probably should get up."
She giggled and responded, "Yeah, probably."
After getting up and having another awkward meal with Murray, they began to drive back to Hawkins. After driving for a little, she noticed a weird look in Hopper's eyes, so she asked, "Hey, you okay?"
"Y-No. I-I'm just really worried. I'm scared you or the kids will get hurt, and it'll be my fault." He muttered
"Hey." She took his hand "Even if anything happens, it won't be your fault. Please understand that."
"I-I know." He smiled reassuringly.
After driving for a few hours, they finally arrived in Hawkins
"Look what I found!" She jokingly exclaimed when they walked into the Police Department
"Chief?" One of the officers said, "How are you alive?"
"No idea." He joked, "Hey Flo."
"Hey." Flo smiled "Welcome back."
"Chief, wh-why are you holding Mrs. Byers's hand?" One of the officers asked. Only then did she realize that Hopper was holding her hand in his
"Oh-Uh-"
"You can tell them. We probably should." She reassured him
"Okay-W-We're kinda...dating." He admitted
"Yes! Powell, that's $50." Flo exclaimed, extending her hand out to one of the officers
"Fine..." The officer muttered, handing Flo a $50 bill.
Ignoring the fact they were betting on them getting together, Hopper said, "We need you guys' help."
"With what?" Powell asked
"My ex has kinda been... abusing me and my family." She admitted, trying not to cry, looking down, and feeling uncomfortable.
None of them said anything, but then, Flo hugged her, still not saying anything, but that was okay.
The five of them spent at least 5 hours of her telling them everything that's been happening, crying a few times, and them trying to figure out how to catch Lonnie in the act.
"How about we use some sort of bait?" Powell suggested
"Yeah, but what would we use as bait?" Hopper asked, still holding her hand.
She felt everyone's eyes on her, and she knew what they were thinking
"No, no. No!" Hopper put his arm around her "We are not doing that!"
"Hop, it's fine." She insisted "It'll be worth it if we can get rid of Lonnie."
"No! He'll hurt you!" He exclaimed, "I won't let that happen!"
She heard the others snickering, but honestly, she was blushing. Hopper had never actually shown how much he wanted to keep her safe.
"Hop, I'll be fine." She squeezed his hand "Please, just let me do this. For the kids."
Was she guilt-tripping him a little? Maybe.
"Fine..." He muttered. After convincing him to let her be use as bait (that sounded wrong), the others suited up and headed to her house.
"I'm going to be okay, Hop." She insisted, all of them outside her house, the officers preparing their cameras and guns.
"I know, just be careful. Please." He asked
"I will." She kissed him on the lips, "I love you."
"I love you too." He smiled.
When the officers and Hopper signaled they were ready, she took a quick breath in and out, and unlocked
"There you are! Where the hell have you been?" Lonnie demanded
"With a friend."
"Don't lie to me, bitch! I see that hickey on your neck" He pushed her into a wall, but for once, she didn't mind. He was confessing. Only thing is: wait, Hopper left a mark? Why did that turn her on?
"What the hell are you doing?!" Jonathan pushed Lonnie away from her "Stay away from mom!"
"Shut up, you little shit! You're just like your brother, a disappointing fag!"
"Don't you dare talk about Will like that!" She screamed at Lonnie, having reached her breaking point. She slapped him as he went to hit Will, who had walked into the room with El at his side
"Don't you dare." He grabbed her wrist, and threw it back, which almost broke it.
"Stop it!" El screamed, and began to try to use her powers, which worked a little bit, but that didn't help what happened next.(Hopper's POV)
He stood outside of Joyce's house, watching in horror as he just let his girlfriend and their kids get hurt
"Is this enough?" He asked Callahan, who was filming
"Not yet." Callahan told him, all of them obviously getting annoyed at him asking that question every minute
Well, sorry for not wanting to watch my family get hurt! He exclaimed in his head. He looked back at the window, and saw Lonnie choking El. Okay, that's it.
He burst down the door, pointing his gun at Lonnie
"Step away from them!" He yelled at Lonnie, rage flowing through his body. Quickly, Powell and Callahan were quick to follow, putting Lonnie in cuffs
"Lonnie Byers, you are under arrest for assault." Powell told Lonnie, which oddly felt good to him.
"You have no evidence!" Lonnie snapped back
"We have all the evidence we need." He smirked, happy to finally see the man that hurt Joyce and the kids so much get what he deserved.
After they took Lonnie away, he quickly got tackled by all of the kids
"Dad!" El exclaimed, crying "I missed you so much!"
"I missed you too. I missed all of you." He admitted, crying as well.
Once the kids stopped hugging him, Jonathan asked, "How are you alive?"
He told the kids the whole story, how he had gotten stuck in the Upside-Down, and had to live there until he was able to find a way out.
And, of course, the next question had to be, "Mom, what's that on your neck?"
Only then did he realize he had given Joyce a hickey by accident. Oops.
"D-Did you tell him?" Jonathan asked him mother, though he wasn't sure what Jonathan meant
"Yes."
"And?"
Joyce wrapped her arms around him and replied, "He loves me too."
"So, are you two like-have you guys-"
Knowing what Jonathan meant, he looked down, lightly blushing. He wasn't embarrassed that he and Joyce slept together. The topic just felt very awkward
"I-I mean-" Joyce must've been feeling the same way "We've slept in the same bed-Bu-But, we haven't-Like-"
"It's fine, mom." Jonathan smiled, then turned to him "Hop, c-can I talk to you?"
"Y-Yeah." He said nervously. After Jonathan pulled him into another room, the last thing he thought was going to happen was that he was going to hug him.
"Thank you. Thank you so much." Jonathan choked out
"I-Uh-" Not knowing what to do, he awkwardly hugged Jonathan back
"You saved us." Jonathan said. He had actually never seen him cry.
When Jonathan stopped hugging him, he noticed how many bruises Jonathan had
"Oh my god, d-did Lonnie do this to you?" He asked Jonathan
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine though." Jonathan smiled to reassure him
"A-Are you really okay with me and your mom dating?" He asked
"Yeah, it's fine." Jonathan smiled "I can tell you love her, and-honestly, I could tell for a very long-time mom liked you. She would always talk about you."
"Oh-I-"
Jonathan hugged him again "Welcome to the family. But if you break her heart, I will break all the bones in your body."
"I won't, I swear." He promised
When they found their family again, Joyce quickly hugged him, her head resting at his chest level
"We're just-gonna leave you two." The kids saying, taking the hint that he and Joyce might end up kissing
After the kids left, Joyce grabbed his collar, and laid a kiss on his lips, smiling the biggest smile he had ever seen
"Someone's happy." He chuckled, kissing back
"You saved us." She muttered, then pulled away from him, "My hero."
He felt himself blush at her words, "J-Joyce..."
"We should probably head to bed." Joyce smirked, which he was able to read
"I-Yo-A-Are you sure you d-don't want me- to just-like-sleep on the couch?" He stuttered out, Joyce's beautiful brown eyes making him nervous
"I'm sure. Now come on, dork." She grabbed his hand and brought him to her bedroom. Though his brain was mostly non-functional, since this would be the second time sleeping with the girl of his dreams, but he caught something in her room that was odd.
"Joycie, what's this?" He held up the picture of the two of them Jonathan had taken of them back during Christmas
"Crap, I thought I hid that." She muttered, blushing "I-This is going to sound stupid, but I kept a picture of you on my bedside."
His face got hot, remembering the picture of Joyce he used to always keep in his pocket until he lost it
"I-It's not weird. It's cute." He kissed her on the cheek
"Come here." She smirked at him as she laid down on her bed
"Gladly." He did as she told him, almost falling on to the bed, and somehow ended up on top of her
"Oh, Hop...I'm liking the view from here." Joyce bit her lip as he stared into her eyes, making himself nervous
"I love you so much, Joyce." He smiled
"I love you too." She kissed him on the lips and making it so he was somehow now on the bottom. After an hour of making out, they were snuggling, Joyce's head on his bare chest
"I love you, Hop." He heard Joyce mutter as she was about to fall asleep
"I love you too." He smiled, kissed her on last time on the lips, and fell asleep with his amazing girlfriend
