7 - Too Fast

but she wears short skirts
i wear t-shirts

it was another day at the lee residence. mother jung hana prepares lunch, kwang soo is having his day off today, and mika unexpectedly is just staring at the ceiling from her bed, she seems to be in deep thought.

a few moments later, mika walks to the kitchen to see her mother. "mom." mika first called.

"yes, sweetie?"

"would it be fine with you if i... apply for a job?" the question got jung hana froze to her spot. if she was drinking water, she would immediately choke.

"n-no?" mika was confused but got startled by her mother tapping the table so loud, "of course it's fine, sweetie! it would be for the better!" she got excited and rushed to hug mika real tight.

"i'm glad you thought about making money, my dear."

"who's making money?" kwang soo heard from his room before walking towards them.

"mika over here finally thought of applying for a job!" hana tapped her daughter's shoulder.

"OHHHHH." kwang soo said in a teasing tone, "finally thought about your family."

kwang soo's comment got a slap from his mother, "ow! i was just messing with her. i mean, she didn't even applied for any single job in 2 years after she graduated, we should be happy she finally want to make use of her bachelor's degree in film and tv production."

ever since they were in middle school, mika was very interested with production. it started with watching so much films and shows to actually getting the degree. however, she got her life ruined because of some reason of hers and took 2 more years off before even getting a job for her own.

"that would be very great, my daughter. do you want me to help you with applying?" jung hana asked mika.

"no need, mom. i'll just let you guys know if things get interesing." mika smiled before walking to her room again.

just before she was planning to go to lie down, her phone started ringing. it was a call from jae suk.

"hello?"

"mika." jae suk called.

"what now?"

"i have to ask you for advice." the sudden request got mika confused.

"what advice?"

"uhmm can we maybe meet up somewhere?" jae suk's tone sounded worried and nervous so it got her indeed curious. "sure, do you want me to bring kwang soo oppa?"

"no, not for now. just the two of us, is that alright?"

"of course, of course."

"great. i'll send you the address." jae suk said and ended the call.

mika immediately got ready, wearing her favorite marvel t-shirt, pants, and just slippers and headed to the address jae suk gave which is at a mural village in ihwa.

"so... what advice are you asking for?" mika opened a topic as they both walk  pass the beautiful murals.

"you see..." jae suk hesitated at first, "i wanted to tell you and kwang soo about it at the same time but he ended up finding it out first..." he looked at the ground first before taking a deep breath and look back at mika.

"can you help me plan my proposal for hyori?"

the whole sentence echoed in mika's head, is he serious? it felt like a dream circling in her head.

"w-what?" mika stutters. "propose? like... get engaged?" mika made sure but jae suk just nodded.

no matter how sure jae suk was, mika couldn't believe it. so many questions roam around her, she couldn't let it out one by one, like a gate that is crowded with so many people.

"that's great, i-i'll help you, sure... but... d-don't you think it's a little bit too fast?" mika tried to calm herself down.

"what? what do you mean "too fast"? do you think she will say no?" jae suk raised an eyebrow.

"no, that's not what i meant. i-i mean, you just started dating her three months ago..." mika took a deep breath and continued, "don't you think you two need a way longer commitment?"

"b-but... i trust her and... i know she trusts me. isn't it okay to get married with only a few months in a relationship as long as you two love each other so much?"

"t-that's not..." mika looked away from him, trying not to get all angry. "marriage is taking another step in life. how can you be so sure to grow old with her if you only dated her for 3 months? i don't think that's enough."

"don't you trust me, mika?" jae suk paused then laid a sarcastic chuckle, "look, i love hyori so much. i want to be with her for the rest of my life. i am 100% sure she's the one. i don't want to lose her and--"

"well, i don't want you to get hurt." mika cuts him off.

"what do you mean "not get hurt"? do you possibly think she might, i don't know, cheat on me?"

"yes!" the answer got jae suk shut, "what if she did? what if she'll ask for a divorce right after a few months of getting married to you? how will you react to that? are you going to throw a party because she cheated on you? no!... you're just going to get mad and hurt, you'll end up crying on your own... and as your best friend, i don't want you to feel that, i don't want you to be on your own and just pretend in front of the camera like you are strong. look, i am saying this as a perspective of your best friend and--"

"well then if you are my best friend, why don't you act like one?!" jae suk just directly shouted at her.

what if i don't want to be just a best friend?

mika was speechless, she got hit straight to her bones, frozen at her place.

"your brother believed in me and even helps me in planning, but why does his sister and even your some called "best friend" of mine doesn't even know how to believe in my decisions and even give a little bit of respect to it?!" jae suk started tearing up because of how loud his shout was.

he never imagined shouting at someone like that, he went extremely uncontrollable, ignoring the fact that she's a woman and even his best friend.

"you know what? you weren't even a "best friend" after all, you're just a--"

"don't you dare approach me nor talk to me when hyori rejects your proposal!!" mika finally got it out and just looked away from him and wipe the tears that suddenly fell after how loud she shouted.

the whole village then got covered with silence, the place isn't meant for people to fight at.

"just... see it for yourself, i'm sure she will say yes." jae suk lastly said before walking away form the awkward atmosphere.

i guess today wasn't a good day for them.
