you say you're fine, i know you better than that

a sound of a hard slap was the first thing jae suk's father did as soon as jae suk arrived at his office.

"why did you broke up with her? huh?!"

jae suk sighed out the irritation and replied, "i don't love her anymore, dad!"

and another slap.

"can't you see that we already started a project here?! calling it quits with her will take down the whole progress!"

"then take the whole progress down!!"

and another slap.

"get back with her or i will kill you and take everything you own from me, yoo jae suk." his dad warned

jae suk just continued shouting, "ever since mom died, you always push me to things i don't even want! you're just using me for money!"

and again, another slap. this time, he grabbed jae suk's collar, "don't you dare bring your mom into this!"

"and don't you dare bring me into this stupidity of yours anymore!" jae suk pushed himself away from his father's grip and angrily walked away from the office.

jae suk's dad slammed on the table and turned to his bodyguard, "hire someone to keep an eye on him! whatever he does, wherever he goes, i want someone to keep an eye on him!!"

"yes, sir."

mika, can we talk? - jae suk

this is what mika first saw as soon as she opened her phone after her work. at first, she ignored it but as she walk back to her place, she saw jae suk at the small park right beside her apartment.

"o-oppa..." mika called him.

she saw jae suk's face isn't looking very well, she knew that he really needs someone to talk to.

she always see that face back in high school when he found out that his mom died. like almost every boy, he's a mama's boy. he never wanted to leave his mother's side, never.

she felt bad and just sat beside him, with jae suk automatically leaning on her shoulders. mika wrapped an arm around him, giving him more comfort. "are you alright?"

jae suk sighed, "yeah, i'm fine."

no, you're not. just by your face, you're not fine.

"is anything wrong?" she asked again.

"i just want to feel your hug again." he said making her twitch and push him away, but jae suk moved closer not letting her move away, "please... let's just stay here."

mika just continued feeling bad for her best friend and just stayed like that for about a minute, it was very comfy, you might not want to get out of it.

"if you're ready, we can talk." mika reminded him of why did he asked to see her at the first place.

after a while of jae suk getting back to reality, he finally decided to sit back to his place and took a deep breath, "dad got mad at me again."

mika knew jae suk's dad isn't the best. like typical rich characters in a drama, he would fit perfectly there.

"let me guess... hyori?" mika guessed and got a nod from jae suk.

"he wants me to get back with her."

this repeated around mika's mind like a cave. why get back with that cheating woman again?

"why?" mika asked.

"dad's project with hyori's dad will end if i really call it quits." jae suk sighed again and started to find something to fidget, "what should i do?" he added.

"just go back with her." jae suk turned to mika and raised an eyebrow, "what do you mean?"

"just date her again. do it for your dad."

he then held on mika's hand, "but i want to be with you."

mika was frozen at her spot, "what?"

"look, i've been liking you back in high school, mika. we did lost connection when i debuted but reuniting with you and kwang soo back in running man, it's like that specific feeling came back to me."

"stop it with your nonsense." mika tried to joke around but jae suk was way more serious.

"no." he held both of her hands now, "my dad just forced me with that hyori... i never wanted to date her at the first place." he finally admitted.

mika never knew that fact that him and hyori are forced. never was, never did. "what?" mika got speechless, "did you lie to me?"

"no, it's not like that. it's just--"

"does kwang soo oppa know?"

"yes, he knows. he's the only one who knows." jae suk started to feel guilty because of the way mika took his confession about him and hyori.

mika let out a sarcastic chuckle, "you should've told me, oppa! you should not have lied to me! if you told me, i wouldn't be so hurt until today... i wouldn't be just glaring at you two giggling at each other." mika started tearing up.

"i wouldn't be so jealous if i knew that you don't like her at the first place." mika got angry and stood up walking away.

"mika! mika, wait!" jae suk started to follow her and get a hold of her wrist.

"mika, please. let me expla--"

"stay away from me!" she shouted at him.

"can you just listen to what i'll say? just this once?!" jae suk ended up shouting at her. mika turned to face him first before walking back to her place.

mika was too fast, she got to her apartment first, seeing her mother there preparing dinner, "oh hey, sweetie! how's work?"

mika didn't reply and just went to her room, slamming the door closed. "that bad, huh?"

---

"oh? jae suk ah! you didn't told me you're gonna visit." jung hana opened the door and saw jae suk holding some plastic bags. "ah, i just thought i'd buy you these." he showed her the bags.

"oh you didn't have to do that! we already finished dinner, come on in and have some." jung hana allowed him in.

he first saw mika doing the dishes. two hours have passed since their fight earlier. he really wanted to see her and this is the only option how.

"i have some snacks for you, mother." jae suk showed jung hana the food he bought from the store, "oh my goodness, i told you not to buy a lot!"

"and..." he grabbed something inside the bag and handed it to mika, "mika's favorite." it was of course, a pack of yogurt drinks.

"oh thank you, jae suk ah. she was whining about that earlier but it turned out we don't have any left."

"mom!" mika shouted.

"what? i'm just telling him about how much of a child you are!" this made jae suk let out a grin.

"oh shoot! jae suk ah, can you stay here for a bit? i forgot to get something from my friend on the other apartment beside us. stay here, i'll prepare you dinner when i get back, okay?"

mom, no.

"okay. i'll wait here."

no no no.

"great. stay here first. i'll be back realllllll quick." jung hana said before closing the door of the apartment.

oh great.
