How Could You?

"Same old." I walk into the kitchen to make a sandwich. I look and look without finding any lunch meat in the fridge. Instead I grab the chips out of the cupboard. Mmm Doritos my favourite. My feet sprint to and up the stairs and into my room. I lay on my bed looking up at the ceiling that's filled with quotes from my favorite songs. My eyes drift off to sleep from exhaustion.

River's POV:

I wake up nearly two hours later. I've been moved from the couch to my bed and Luke also has moved. Looking up at my ceiling I get the urge to make the various quotes from my favorite songs appear, but my head hurts and my mind won't exert enough force. A whimper escapes Luke's throat. I decide to wake him from his nightmare. Luke is shaking opening his eyes to the really world. "Ssh Luke it's okay. I'm here." He rolls back into his ball. I decide to go walking since my head feels better and I wanna move.

Outside feels like rain is coming. I begin to think back to when Jace held me in the rain. I didn't notice the shower above us, only the shower of kisses he fed me. Us kids knew a lot about those things. Our final masquerade was one I will never forget. He told me he loved me. I believed him; so much was put into those 3 words. Then a light on the horizon came and swept him away from me. Before he let go of my hand he said he would never forget me. When tomorrow comes I will be ready to hug him. Kiss him. Give everything to him. Jace my everything.

I went back inside and began to wonder where Luciel is. Beside the point. I walk up to the attic and start to go through boxes. Curiosity fills me when I see my father's journal. I peek inside.

"May 6th 2637

My dear Amanda,

I await your return. Your trip has taken it's toll on me. Guess what. Our little Riverline has completed sword training. You should of seen her when you awed over your gift. You truelly know your daughter too well. I hope you get this letter soon.

Sincerely,

Robert

"June 18th 2637

My dearest Amanda,

I miss you unconditionally. You must return soon. I don't know how long we can put up with these attacks. River will have no memory of this. No memory of us. Luciel will take her in. I trust her to care for our little girl.

Sincerely,

Robert"

It was the third letter that shocked me. I looked and couldn't believe my eyes.

"River?" Luciel crept in and I looked at her with tears in my eyes.

"How could you?" I half whispered.
