Monday
Harold takes me to school with him. We are fine. Yesterday, we talked and we resolved everything. I will tell Ben that I won't go out with him.
My ankle is better but I still feel discomfort. I still have it bandaged and I'm walking slow.
We arrive to school and Harold parks. I look at him, "Are we going to eat lunch together?"
"Yeah with my friends like always," he answers.
"I mean only the both of us,"
"We can't let anyone suspect,"
I sigh, "right."
"I'll take you out on Saturday, okay?" He touches my chin and turns me towards him. "You are so beautiful Cassie," he kisses me. But I quickly pull away, "people are going to see us."
He smirks, "fine. You owe me a kiss after school."
I chuckle, "and you owe me something more." I get out of the car quickly to leave him guessing.
I go inside and fix my skirt and socks. I continue walking to the class. It is ten minutes for the bell. I see Mr. Delaware putting an assignment on each desk. I knock on the door, "Hi, can I come in?"
He smiles, "of course ms. Cassie."
I walk in. "Close the door please," he says. I close it and settle in my desk. I look at the paper on my desk and see it's a quiz. Ugh. I hate surprise quizes.
"So how is everything going missy?" Mr. Delaware asks. He is leaning against his desk with his arms crossed on his chest. He has a simple black button down shirt with white pants and a gray tie.
"Good," I say.
"And have you figured things with your dad?"
"Yeah,"
"What about Roger? You guys aren't friends anymore huh?"
I look down at the paper, "Nope. I haven't seen him."
"Well that's high school, you learn who your friends are and who you are," he says. "Don't worry he isn't suffering, I saw him laughing with his skater buddies."
"Yeah I know he wouldn't be down. He is positive about things." I look at Mr. Delaware. "Why are you nice to me? Most teachers just say hi and grade my assignments."
He grins, "Because I see me in you, of course I'm not a cute girl but we are similar."
"How?"
"Both of us had complicated relationships with our fathers, we argue with our siblings, we aren't as shy as people think, and you were an orphan, like I am."
"But I thought you have your mother,"
"I do, but let's just say she is just there but not there," he says awkwardly.
"You don't have to tell me, you are my teacher after all," I shrug.
Mr. Delaware chuckles, "heh, yeah, I'm just your boring English teacher."
"Very boring." I smile.
Lunch:
Jessie and I are getting our food. I go for a chicken garden salad and apple juice with a fruit cup.
"Hey," Ben comes running towards us. "Let me help you." He gets my tray and offers me his arm.
"And what about me?" Jessie frowns.
Ben smiles, "she needs the help not you."
"It's fine," I walk towards Harold's table. The guys say hello.
