Next day
I'm seating at a booth in a restaurant with my father. He is preparing his coffee with three creams and four sugars. He mixes it with a spoon.
"How was your sleep?" He asks before taking a sip.
I lightly smile, "Good. How about you? You've been busy, you need to rest more."
He shrugs, "I'm in charge of this community. It is hard work Cassandra."
"So? You are still a human. You need rest,"
"Just like your mom," he chuckles.
A young man cones by our table with our food. He places my waffles and egg plate in front of me while placing a big breakfast pancake plate in front of my father.
"Enjoy," the waiter leaves.
"It looks yummy," father smiles. He begins to cut his pancakes.
"What did you mean like my mom? " I ask.
He looks at my still cutting his food. "With those few moments we saw each other, she used to be naggy with me like you are right now."
"Oh so I'm naggy?"
He nods and begins to eat his food.
I throw him a napkin. "Well sorry for trying to care."
He smiles. "Thanks for trying to care. I am too. I really do appreciate you Cassandra. You are turning to be a good young lady. I really wish I was there to see you grow up."
I suddenly feel my lungs getting crushed and my stomach drop to my feet. He thinks I'm a good daughter. If he only knew what Harold and I are doing.
I'm bad person. I'm a bad daughter.
"Hey, pumpkin, you okay? Those waffles aren't going to eat themselves," father breaks my thoughts. I nod quickly. "Sorry was thinking about a homework I remembered."
I begin to eat along with him. We do small talk about school and his work.
We finish and go walk around a park near by. My long white skirt moves with the cool breeze. It is November already. So, the weather is nice.
I look down at my brown boots as father is talking about one of the twins.
"Hey, I need to go to the office for a quick thing, let me take you home," father stops walking. I stop and look at him. "Sure."
He touches my cheek. "Thanks for behaving well. I see you are trying to get along with everyone. I appreciate that."
I look down, "I'm trying. I always wanted a good family."
"Your mother wasn't bad but I know she wasn't there for you because of her job."
I look at father's eyes. "I know but I don't like that she kept you away from me. Things would have been different."
"I know. But you are here now, that's all that matters," he kisses my forehead. "Let's go."
He drops me off at home. I go in and see Austin siting in the living room watching tv.
"Hey," I say as I walk in. "Where is everyone?"
He sits straight and shrugs. "Oh, whats up?Angel is in the bathroom. When I came, Harold just left."
"Okay, cool," I turn to the tv. Man, it's so awkward ever since I kissed him by accident.
"Oh hey," Angel comes in. She sits next to Austin. "Did dad leave to work?"
I nod. "He said he will be here by 5."
"Okay, cool," Angel says. She gives her attention to the tv. I slowly walk back and go to my room. I wonder where is Harold. I check my phone but nothing from him.
Suddenly my phone rings, it is Roger.
"Hello?" I answer it.
"Hey, just wanting to check up on you."
"Well I'm fine. How about you? I thought you hated me,"
"No," he says, "but I saw you yesterday and well I just wanted to see if you were okay."
I lightly smile, "yeah."
"And what you been up to?"
"Nothing, adjusting to this new life," I sit on my bed, "look, I'm sorry for-"
"Leave it," Roger says. "How about we start fresh?"
"Really?"
"Sure,"
"Fine by me"
"Okay, well friends," he lightly chuckles.
"Cool,"
"Then I'll see you at school, bye."
"Bye." I hang up.
Wow. That was something, but I am glad he doesn't hate me. I do kind of miss him. It will be nice to be friends again. Ugh but how will Harold react?
...."Hhmm," I am trying to think what to eat. Kelly hasn't returned and I don't have money to order pizza. It is 3.
"Hey loser," Angel comes in the kitchen. "Austin is going to take us for burgers. You want to?"
Wow. Another process today. I nod.
"Let's go."
We arrive to a fast food restaurant after an awkward ride in Austin's car.
We sit in a metal table for 4. Austin is waiting for the food in front.
Angel is fixing her curls using her phone as a mirror. She has a sleeveless sheer white button down shirt with jeans and black flats.
"What?" She asks in worry, "you can see my pimple?"
I say no.
"Good. Stupid thing pops in my forehead," she pouts her lip. "Austin was making fun of it."
I chuckle, "you look fine."
"She does," Austin. Arrives with the food. Angel kisses his cheek as he sits next to her. "Thanks baby."
"Let's eat," Angel says.
We eat and go back home. They go to Angel's room while I stay in the kitchen. Soon everyone arrives. Harold sits next to me on the kitchen counter. My father and Kelly are in the living room while the twins and Angel are in their rooms.
"Where were you?" I ask him.
"With my mom and twins, I figure you will be with dad all day," he answers.
"Well no, he needed to work, been here since 11."
"Yeah, he always does that," Harold says.
"Did you have a good time?"
He nods, "yeah but I couldn't stop thinking about you."
I look down at my feet dangling beside the lower counter. "Stop saying that, they are going to hear you."
He touches my arm. "I can't help it."
I look at him and my heart races. He is so cute. His hand goes to my cheek and caresses it so gently. It feels ticklish.
I smile, "You are cheesy."
He shrugs and gives me a dorky smile. "So? You like it." Harold gets closer to me. I feel his minty breathe on me. I bite my lower lip and want to laugh for some reason. I feel him pulling me towards him.
His upper lip touches mine slightly, "I'm getting so hooked on you Cassandra."
I close my eyes, "I really like you too."
"I want to know more about you," he whispers. He kisses me. Electric shocks invade my body and I'm in happiness. I reply back to his kiss.
I wrap my arms around his neck.
I hear a moan coming from his lips and I start to get hot all over.
"Whoa," Austin says. I quickly pull away and stand. Oh no, no, he saw us!
Austin is holding two cups. I forgot he was in Angel's room. He must have come to get more water.
"Dude," Austin is in disbelief and is just staring back and forth at Harold and me.
Harold quickly gets the cups and puts them in the middle table. He pushes Austin in. "Shut up," Harold whispers loudly. They are next to me.
"Don't say anything," Harold says. He is holding Austin by the front of the shirt.
"Back off bro," Austin says.
"No, we need to talk about this," Harold replies.
Austin turns to me, "wait, the time we kissed, you thought it was him right?"
Oh gosh, no, I don't know what to say.
"This is messed up. You guys are siblings," Austin shakes his head in confusion.
"I will tell Angel that you kissed Cassandra," Harold says.
Austin stares at Harold. "No, Cassandra promised me she wouldn't. She kissed me and i didnt reply. Besides, this is worse."
"Hey, everything okay?" Father comes in the kitchen. Harold steps back and says yes.
"Are you sure?" Father asks again.
I nod. I look at Austin and he is looking down.
"Okay, well, you guys want to see a movie?"
"It's fine sir," Austin says. He excuses himself from the situation. "Sure dad," Harold says. Harold nudges me. He directs me with his eyes to follow Austin. I get nervous and follow him. "I'm going to get my phone!" I yell to my father as I go up the stairs. I spot Austin coming from the bathroom with a towel drying his face. I quickly go to him and pull him inside Harold's room. I close the door and lean against it. Austin turns to see me. "What the hell?"
"Sorry, I just need to know you won't tell anyone anything of what you saw and heard," I say nervously.
"So what? You are going to blackmail me?"
I shake my head, "no, I dont."
"I like angel, I don't want to hurt her with the stupid kiss or you guys. It's not my business to say, but if I saw it then eventually everyone will know."
I know! But I can't just leave Harold. I don't want to loose my dad. I don't want to be hated.
I've bitten into the fruit my 'grandmother' told me.
"Stop," Austin tries to comfort me. I am tearing up. I shouldn't be here. I am bad.
"Hey. Look, I know you both don't have the same DNA, but it's sort of weird," Austin says. I rub my eyes and look at him. He is close to me. He looks worried.
"I won't tell," he says.
"Really?" I ask.
he nods, "yeah."
I hug him. "Thank you. Thank you! I swear I will make it up to you."
I pull away, "sorry."
"Can I get out now?"
I step back and open the door. "You!" Angel suddenly slaps me.
"Whoa, babe!" Austin pulls her back.
"Why are you here with her?" Angel pushes Austin away.
"Nothing, we were talking," he answers.
"Fuck you!" She yells at me. "Why did Harold say to check his room?"
"What's going on?" Kelly asks. Father is behind her.
"Your daughter is the same as her mother! She is a whore!"
"No," I say.
"I don't want to see you ever again!" Angel slaps Austin.
"You cheated on me with her!"
What did Harold do?
He told her what happened?
