When I got home, I didn’t use the phone he got me at all. I programmed all of the numbers from my contact book in but that was it. I wasn’t even sure if I was really gonna use it. I bit at my nails as I read through a random book on my shelf. The phone Justin got me began to buzz. I saw Aimee’s name on the screen. I picked it up and spit out the nail I was chewing on.
“Hello?”
“Cali, hey. Justin gave me your new number. I hope that’s all right.”
“Yeah, it’s fine,” I replied to Aimee.
“Do you wanna come over tonight? I’m having a party with like twenty people for my eighteenth birthday and I wanted you to be there.” I heard a voice in the background.
“Is she coming or not?” I didn’t recognize the voice.
“I’m finding out! Shut up, Nate!” Ohh, the hot guy from the restaurant.
“Yeah, I’ll be there. Just text me the address and time and what I should wear and everything.” I bit at the skin on the inside of my cheek.
“Okay, I will.” There was some noise from her end, and then she hung up.
Another call popped up on the screen. It was Justin. I immediately pressed ignore. I plopped down onto my bed and heard the phone buzz again. It was a text from Aimee with the details. I replied.
Me: so who that i know will be there?
Aimee: justin, nate, luke, val, greg, a few others
Me: will tamara or anne be there?
Aimee: anne, yes. tamara, no. i invited justin instead of her.
I didn’t reply back. The party was a couple hours from then, so I decided to get ready and walk there. I put a little bit of mousse into my hair and wore leggings and a tee shirt. The house was an hour away in walking distance. Mary and Jake had the car, and I definitely didn’t have anybody to call to drive me there.

“Cali, is that you?” A drunk Aimee answered the door to her house.
“You’re drunk already? When is anyone not drinking around here?” I stepped inside and heard a bunch of voices coming from the tv room.
“Relax, Cali. I promised Justin there’d be no alcohol at the party. I’m the only one here who’s drunk. My parents aren’t gonna be home for a few days, so we all have nothing to worry about. Stop pulling a Justin.” her words slurred together. She held her finger to her lips as if to tell me to keep quiet. I scoffed. I was so not pulling a Justin. We were polar opposites.
“Alrighty,” I walked with Aimee to the tv room. Everything about the house looked very modern.
“Everybody, this is Cali!” Aimee shouted. The guests waved at me. I could see that they were surrounded by two guys playing Xbox. I heard a few people upstairs and saw some in the dining room.
Nathan (Who I guessed was Nate???) and Luke sat on the couch playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Jake used to be obsessed with the game until he had gone to college, gotten an education and a real job. I heard knocking on the door and Aimee went to go answer it. I travelled to the dining room and saw the other girl Tamara was friends with and Mack, as well as a few others I didn’t know.
