I woke up the next morning to Emilia giving me a wet willy. I jerked my head and she lightly giggled.

“I came up last night to check on you guys and you were both fast asleep.” Emilia pointed at my lap and I finally realized why I felt like I was being crushed.

Justin was half laying across me, sound asleep.

“Oh no, what time is it?” I started to rub my eyes.

“It’s about nine.”

“Oh my god, thanks.” Emilia walked back into her room and shut the door.

Justin’s back rose and fell as he breathed evenly. His hair was messy and he seemed so fragile and weird. I poked him in the side repeatedly until he started to move.

“Everything is on fire!” I yelled into his ear.

Emilia burst out of her room at the same time Justin fell off of me and to the floor. Justin stood up quickly and scolded me for bursting out into fits of laughter.

It was a few days later, and Jake and Mary were downstairs arguing over who was going to go up and talk to me about the whole college thing. My face was burning hot but I managed to stay contained. I was texting Aimee, but quickly set my phone down as Mary came into the room. I was surprised she had lost an argument to him.

“Hey, Cali.” Mary sat down on the edge of my bed and put a hand on my knee. She quickly changed the action and clasped her hands together.

“Do you want to see a movie later?” She stuttered over her words.

“Mary, that’s not what you came in here to say...”

She broke down into sobs and muttered an apology over and over. She played with her red hair and tried to say something.

“Mary, I know, it’s okay. You don’t have to tell me because I already know. Just please leave me alone for now. I’ve been dealing with this ever since I heard and I don’t wanna see you cry. You’re having a baby, dammit.” I rubbed her arm awkwardly and she continued to sulk.

“Jake!” I yelled out for my brother. He opened the door a few seconds later and I could tell he had been eavesdropping.

“Babe, come on.” he kneeled down in front of her and took her hands in his.

“I...I can’t.” Mary stuttered over her words as she broke out into more sobs.

“What the hell did you say to her, Cali?” Jake glared at me.

I got out from under my paint splatter blanket, and stood in front of him, staring at him like he was an idiot.

“I didn’t say a thing! I gotta go to work. It looks like I have to take care of myself now anyways.” I shoved past Justin and hit his shoulder on purpose to spite him.
