Okay, you guys. This is a hard one.
I can't even express to you what I feel as I write this, but just know this is going to be the most exciting, yet sad chapter to write.
This will lead to bigger things and I can't wait to see what everyone thinks.
Also... THIS CHAPTER WILL INCLUDE MY FIRST MURPHY POV!!!
Please enjoy :)
Chapter 38
"There's so much history here," I say, reflecting on the many, many events that occurred since we arrived on earth.
"So many bad things," John sighs.
"Not all bad," I say, nudging him.
"Name on good one," he says, but instead a kiss him once on the cheek and turn to Jaha. "Are you about done?"
"We gotta be heading back," John says.
"How well did you know him?" Jaha asks John.
"Well enough to be hung for his murder."
To say Jaha was shocked at John's response would be an understatement.
"Clarke sugarcoated it for you, didn't she?"
"What happened to my son?" Jaha asks rising to his feet.
"Twelve-year-old girl stabbed him in the neck with a knife she took from me."
"Why would she do that?"
"Because..." I start, walking over to him. "She couldn't kill you."
He stands there in silence.
"Seems you got a lot of blood on your hands, chancellor," I say. "Both our fathers..." I pause, looking at John for a moment before returning my gaze. "And your son."
"They would all be alive if you hadn't sent us down here," John states.
"If I didn't send you... they would've died on The Ark with the rest of us. And we would've never known that earth was survivable." He looks back at the graves for a small moment. "Their sacrifice is why we are here."
That would 'sacrifice' is just his way of excusing his actions.
Bet he sleeps like a baby at night.
"Good can come out of even the darkest acts, John."
Sighing, Jaha starts to walk over to the dropship.
"Camp 'You' is that way," John points in the other direction.
"We'll rest at the dropship for a while," Jaha decides.
"Suit yourself," John mutters as we follow him.
...
Lying my head against John's shoulder, I begin to think about the many, many places I'd rather be then here.
Well, at least I have John. I could be anywhere with him.
Even here.
Reaching out, Jaha offers us food, but John shakes his head.
"You sure? You must be hungry."
"No one gives anything without expecting something in return," John replies, reminding me how very similar we are.
"That's a cynical way to go through life, John."
"He's not wrong," I say.
Leon was a perfect example of that.
