Chapter 34

To say I was shitting myself, would be an understatement. The whole idea of attending dinner with Rory's family without her being there, made me feel beyond uncomfortable. And to be bringing John with me... that's a whole other thing entirely.

I'm not sure how they'll feel when I bring John with me. I mean, isn't it kind of disrespectful?

I loved their daughter. But going to dinner solo feels like a death sentence. Am I crazy for wanting just a little support by the man I lo- by John.

"Are you ready to go?" I hear him ask as I finish getting ready.

"Yeah," I call back, fiddling with my dress slightly.

Lord knows I don't tend to wear these.

I wanted to look my best in front of the Stones. Even if it meant wearing something that makes me look like the total opposite of myself.

I know it's only dinner, but showing up in the grubby clothing I had on would send further evil eyes from Evelyn. And I don't need any more of those.

"This will have to do," I mutter to myself, deciding on the red polka dot dress I have on.

Sucking my breath in, I take a minute to calm my nerves.

Here goes nothing.

I walk out, feeling beyond girly.

Never EVER am I wearing one of these.

"Okay, let's go..." John starts, but finds himself at a loss for words the moment he spots me.

"Uh- Quinn. You look..."

"Ridiculous, I know," I finish, feeling as posh as I did when I went to church.

Mother would love this.

I guess the only difference from then and now is my baby weight that I'm still trying to lose.

Good luck, Billie.

"No, I was gonna say you look beautiful," he corrects, and I can't help but blush when he does.

Boy, is it hot in here.

Trying to avoid the heat I feel pressing on my cheeks, I look to what John is wearing.

My, oh, my.

Irresistible.

Irresistible
