Chapter 4

Bellamy volunteered to go down and save Mel, which probably does make sense if you think about it. He is the stronger one, the braver one... sometimes, I guess. Plus he actually has a heart, unlike me. If it weren't him, who else would it be?

Using the seatbelts from the ark, we slowly lower Bellamy down until he reaches Mel.

"I got her! Pull us up!" He shouts.

"Don't you worry, Bellamy, I won't drop ya!" John yells back down to him as he uses his strength to pull him up.

"Just pull, Murphy!" Finn grunts from behind me.

Yes, I'm behind John. Just because I'm near him, doesn't mean I will talk to him.

We continue to pull, giving everything we've got to help him return safely to us. Unfortunately though, the belt snaps and John is left in the middle, trying to hold the it together whilst the rest of us fall back onto the ground.

"Shit!"

I scramble over to John with Finn and Monroe to try and help pull them back up. Our hands are burning and our bodies are grunting as we try our best to save them.

"What the hell is happening up there?" Bellamy yells.

"Just hold on!" Finn orders, just as arrows begin to hit the ground beside us.

"Grounders!" Monroe screams.

Don't tell me she's here. Don't tell me I've been found. I only just escaped her.

Finn hands her a gun and she stands to start shooting at the trees.

"How many are there?" Bellamy asks.

"We can't see them! In the trees! In the trees, aim for the trees!" Finn repeats over and over to Monroe.

A spear makes its way in-between us and we all move to either side away from the fire.

"No!" We all panic as we lose more grip than before.

I hear Monroe cry out as an arrow pierces through her leg.

Ouch!

"We need to cut her loose!" John says, stating the obvious. "We can't do this!"

More arrows hit the ground.

"Bellamy, you gotta cut her loose!" John tells him.

"No way!" Bellamy replies.

"Cut her loose!"

Monroe continues to groan as her pain grows.

And when I think we're all screwed, the sound of the horn, which is only blown for acid fog, meets our ears.

"Monroe, back on the rope!" Finn orders.

"Come on!" John's voice comes out strained.

We keep pulling and pulling until finally both Bellamy and Mel are with us.

"We have to take cover from the fog," Finn says as Mel sits beside him.

Bellamy nods just as we hear someone call his name.

"Bellamy!"

I know that sweet voice anywhere, looking up I spot Octavia, holding the horn within her grasp.

"No we don't," Bellamy grins.

"She blew the horn," I smile.

"Octavia," Bellamy says, moving towards her before hugging his sister.

Watching this for a moment, I fall back and take a breath, worn out from the struggle we all endured just then.

"You okay?" Finn asks and I nod.

Even though it should probably be me asking you that.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

I sit back up and watch Octavia bind Monroe's wound whilst Bellamy tends to Mel.

"Thank god you came when you did," Monroe says, hissing in pain as the material is tightened around her thigh.

"I was going back to camp when I heard shots," Octavia informs.

"Nice fog horn," John says. "What happened to your boyfriend?"

"He's gone," she tells him as she hits his hand when he attempts to touch it.

"Alright," he mutters, making his way over to me as I wrap my hands up, ignoring the blisters and cuts there.

I watch him crouch down and reach out as I struggle to tie them up at the ends, but I smack his hand away before he gets too close.

"Quinn, let me help you," he pleads.

"Yeah," I scoff. "Like you helped me before?"

I let my teeth pull on the ends as I finished the knot before getting up and walking away.

"The grounders will be back, so we need to go. Now," Octavia announces.

"Yes, we do," Finn agrees, holding a couple of copies of maps he's been making.

"Octavia says the arrow might be poisoned, I have to take them home," Bellamy tells us.

"I know," Finn nods.

"I'll meet you as soon as I can," Bellamy says as he's handed a copy.

"I know," Finn repeats as he walks off, leaving the group.

"I'm going with him," I tell Bellamy, which causes him to shake his head.

"Quinn, you can't! I don't need you two making decisions together when neither one of you is in the best mind frame."

"Bellamy, our daughter is out there. I know she is! I'm not going to sit around when I could be looking for her!"

With that reminder, he finally gets it and let's me go. "Be safe, okay?"

I nod quickly and run after Finn.

And to my delight, John joins us.

Not!

I practically want to crack my head open when I spot him following behind.

My life is great.
