Chapter 54: What really happened
In an empty warehouse lost in Nevada, Zayn started to open his eyes.
His body had fallen on the ground some time ago. It's when he felt a cold draught in his hair that eventually he started to regain consciousness.
He wanted to run his hand through his hair and realized that both his hands were tied up in his back.Empty warehouse, hands tied up on a wooden chair, all that was nothing more than the trademark of the Other Side.
''the fuck?' He whispered to himself.
'Finally, I was about to shot you in the foot just to wake you up!'
'Douglas.' Zayn rolled his eyes.
'Hi, little bird.' The CEO of the OS smirked.Zayn didn't respond; he was too busy trying to fight his headache as he tried to figure out what was happening.
'If you wanna known everything, you are not here to be my scapegoat.' He announced as he grabbed a set of keys in his pocket.
'Are we gonna have the same convo over and over again?' Zayn sighed.
'We just need to talk.'
'Ain't nothin' to tell ya.' Zayn frowned.
Douglas glowered at him. He approached him and unhandcuffed his hands.
'You know what your dad did, do you?' He asked his prisoner.
'Yes.' Zayn briefly answered.
'He assassinated my brother when I was 19. Does that remind you of something?' He picked him, a wicked grin drawn on his lips;Zayn stood up to leave, but Evans gabbed his arm.
'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I was too easy.'
'Screw you, Douglas.' The Pakistani sighed.
'Only a few weeks after that, his wife was gone, and I had to raise two kids. Two goddamn kids.'
'I already know your side of the story: my father violently murdered your brother, Laya ran off without her kids, and you raised two fucking murderers. I just got rid of one of them.'
'Don't you dare;' The ginger-brown-haired spy clenched his jaw.
'I'm sorry, it was too easy.' Zayn repeated Douglas' words. A proud smiled painted on his face.
'How about you stop acting like a kid and listen to my narrative.'
'I already know it, way too damn well.' He looked down.
'You think so? huh?' Doug's voice broke. 'Tell me what happened then.'
'It was nothing but an accident. My dad was not the best, far from it; he was often absent, but he never took the risk to embark us in this reckoning stuff.' Zayn said.
'You gotta be kiddin' me.'
'Unfortunately, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's sad, but it happens, and you don't create a spy agency to get back at a fucking stray bullet.'
'A stray bullet.' Douglas laughed.
'Is that what they told you?' Zayn rolled his eyes. This discussion was pointless. All of that was pointless.
Or maybe he didn't want to hear the truth.
'This is not what happened.'
'Yes, it is.'
'This is not what happened.' Douglas yelled, looking straight into his prisoner's eyes.
'What happened then, huh?' Zayn chuckled.
'Parker found out that your dear dad had a double life.'
'Don't mess with that.' Zayn felt his eyes watering. 'He loved my mum more than anything in the world.'
'I know he did, and that's why he didn't want her to find out about it.'
'No, no, no. He was a lot of bad things but wasn't a liar.'
'Zayn, please, listen to me.' Douglas slowly said.
'You're only saying this to get back at me!' he brutally stood up. 'Because I killed your Chic and fucked up Victoria, you can't take it.'Douglas grabbed Zayn's collar and tackled him on the wall.
'I'm just trying to help you here, and you're acting like you're proud of it?' Douglas asked, a psychopath smirk drawn on his face.
'You should thank me. She wouldn't have turned into such a great agent, right? But, unfortunately, I didn't manage to break her to the point where she could take revenge on her brother as I did.' Zayn taunted.
'If she wanted, you'd already been dancing with the devil. But she'd rather watch you cry the person you love most for the rest of your life.'
'How's she gon' do? I'm forever alone.' Zayn laughed.
'You shouldn't underestimate my niece.' Douglas let go of him.The CEO of the OS turned his back at him and walked towards the exit door.
'I've always been underestimating her.' Zayn yelled. In no time, Douglas turned and walked quickly in Zayn's direction. The young man was already smiling at his words. He had struck a chord.
Seeing Douglas in such a state of rage made him strangely forget his own.
The red-haired man put his cold gun on Zayn's forehead.
Zayn wasn't scared. It felt like his emotions were all gone.
As he blinked, Douglas' face became more and more blurry. He oddly looked more like Chic;That, that was scary. His vision became clear again, and his dead nephew replaced the 38-year-old man;
'Straight in the head just like your brother.' The young blond pressed the trigger. The sound of the bullet leaving the gun and the smell of gunpowder spread through the room, more precisely all around Zayn.
And his body fell to the ground for the second time. If he were still able to contradict Douglas's words or insult chic for marc's death, he would have been able to do so.Maybe Douglas was lying, or possibly Zayn did not believe him. Maybe there was a part of truth in all that.
Because if there's something Zayn learned in his existence. It's that there's a part of truth in all lies and a part of lying in all truths.
