Chapter 56: fix yourself

Back in the city's center, a tall brunette was in her office facing two of her agents. She played a video on her computer and turned the screen in her employees' direction. When the video was over, she violently closed her MacBook.
'What the hell is that? Huh?' she clenched her jaw.
'You told us to catch Jonshon and Javadd.' The youngest one said.
'And what part of 'catch them' did you not understand? I paid you to bring them here, not to blow their brains out with a fucking grenade!'
'We're sorry, boss, we thought you wanted to get rid of 'em for good.' The other agent apologized. 'Where are they?' She asked.
'What? Who?'
'Oh god, why are you so stupid? Zayn and Alyssa! Their bodies.' She bored into them.
'We... We couldn't find 'em.' He said.
'You couldn't find 'em? What do you mean you couldn't find 'em? It's two corpses we're talking about,' She yelled.

The two men were getting hot, and drops of sweat appeared on their foreheads, making the boss smile.
'Sorry.' they repeated.
'I don't fucking believe it. I guess you didn't even check if they were dead or injured.'
'There's no way they could've survived such an explosion.' One of the two dumb spies announced. 'Oh yeah, right, I'm so dumb for asking that! I bet your stupid ass calculated the distance between you and them when you threw the bomb. You did, right?' She sarcastically laughed.

The two spies exchanged looks.
'Yeah, that's what I thought.'
'Mrs. Evans, we are deeply sorry we messed up.' The first one started.
'We badly messed up.' His colleague added.
'We won't disappoint you again.'
'You won't get the opportunity.' Victoria announced. 'Please don't kill us. We will work for free!'
'Kill you? No. We're not in a mafia movie!' She laughed.
'I'm gonna brain-wash you and throw you right back where you're coming from.'
'That's cruel!'
'I know, but it's either that or I force you to shoot your dear friend in the head and make everything go away. And of course, then I'll take care of you. But then again, it's up to you!' She smiled.
'We'll take the first option, then.' He agreed.
'Good choice!' she smirked.

The tall brunette grabbed her walkie-talkie and said:
'I've two idiots in my office who must forget we exist. Do with it what you want, Gage.'
'Comin'.'
She put the walkie talkie on her desk and greeted her ex-employees:
'Well, that was not a pleasure to work with you. I hope Gage will leave you at least your childhood memories.'
She closed her office with her fingerprints and left the two men locked in there.
'Hey Vicky, I'm going on break soon. How about a cup of coffee?' Anna stated.
'Sure.'

Twenty-five meters down earth, Someone knocked on Alyssa's rooms door:
         'Can I come in?'
'Yeah.' She agreed.
'Alyssa, I wanted to apologize for what... oh my god, what's going on?' He worried when he noticed her red eyes.
'It's nothing, Freddy. I'm getting used to that.' She smiled.
'It's Zayn, right?'
She nodded, incapable of saying out loud that he was the reason for her tears.
'Have you broken up?' Freddy asked, crouching down in front of her.
'I don't even know. I guess we did.'
'What happened?' He asked.

Zayn had approached his girlfriend, who was sitting legs crossed on the bed. He was ready to kiss her goodnight.
'Don't touch me.' She coldly said with a backward movement.
The golden-eyed man had looked at her, confused.
'Was it necessary, huh?' Aly frowned.
'Alyssa, what the heck are you talking about?'
'Oh please, please, for the love of God, stop acting like you don't know it.' She hardly murmured.
She had felt her eyes watering but tried as hard as she could have to hold these tears back.
              'About the...' he started.
'How many times will I have to prove to you that it's just you and no one else?'
'Aly, I'm.'
'I've known you for two years now. Two goddamn years where I stood by your sides no matter what and no matter how hard you hurt me. I have never turned my back on you, and yet, you're still not seeing it?' Her voice cracked at the same speed as their two hearts did.
'Look, I know that you're life hasn't been so easy. I know it. But you can't fight or get wasted every time something doesn't go the way that you want it to go or that you're jealous or whatever!' She continued, her eyes getting redder.
'Alyssa, I'm sorry.'
'You're always sorry, Zayn, you're always sorry.'
He looked down, not knowing what to say.
'Where is this going to lead us? It's been two years, and you still don't trust me when I should be the one doubting you. Are you still going to get drunk every time I'll be near a man in 5 years?'
She had stopped speaking for a few seconds and had taken a deep breath.
'I love you more than I thought I could was capable of, and I've always known that something was wrong with you, but I just hoped that you could change that. Or that I could heal you changing that...'
'Are you breaking up with me? Again?' He sarcastically giggled.
'No, I'm just saying that you have a problem that you need to fix.' She declared, eyes wide open.
'What do you want me to do?'
'Fix yourself. Because I don't know how long I'll be able to put up with your 18 years old teenager behavior. If you don't want to tell me what's going on, it doesn't matter. I can understand, but I'm not going to spend the rest of my life with an impulsive teenager. Find a solution.'
'I have a to leave.' he said.
'What?' The blondie exclaimed.
'I must go.' He repeated, grabbing the gun on the desk.
'Are you kidding?'
'Does it look like I am?'He said in a tone devoid of all emotions.
'No.' Her voice crackled. 'No, it doesn't.'

A tear had fallen from her left eye, but he didn't seem to care about it. He was packing his bags in front of her. She couldn't move. She was stunned. Aly didn't expect anything from him, but she had never imagined that he would leave her like that now.
'I can at least ask you when you plan to come back.' She asked.
'Time will tell.' He smiled.

She was speechless. Zayn kissed her on the forehead and left the bedroom.
An uncertain number of minutes passed, without her being able to move, without her being able to take her eyes off the door.
He had left just when he should have stayed and proved to her that he was not a kid anymore.
