------------------chapter 48: seemed like an eternity
Previously in Gunshot
'Zayn, you left a week ago...' James cut him off, realizing how bad the situation was.
'Give me her pulse rate and the level of oxygen in her lungs.'
'108 beats per minute and 67% oxygen. James, I didn't go to medical school, but I know it's not normal.' The Pakistani murmured.
'Try to get to the bunker as fast as you can. I'll send you the GPS coordinates.'
'James, tell me what's going on. Please.'
'It's only a matter of time before you lose her for good...''How much?' Zayn said, without any emotions.
'How much what?' James asked.
'How much time do I have to get her to the bunker?' He repeated in the same cold tone.
James didn't answer; he knew his best friend too well; he knew what that tone meant, and most important of all, he knew that Zayn couldn't bear to lose her.
'Tell me!' Zayn ordered.
'Less than 2 hours...' James sighed.
'If it's not already too late...' His consciousness whispered.Zayn hung up the phone.
James sent him the GPS coordinates as he promised minutes ago.
James couldn't think properly: she had little or no chance of healing.
Aly couldn't die, Zayn and Selena would not survive this. No one would.
Zayn was terrified of losing her a second time. He waited for James' message for a few seconds, a few seconds that seemed like an eternity.
His phone finally vibrated. He entered the GPs coordinates into the plane's autopilot.
Then he stood up to take Alyssa's hand:
'We'll be at the bunker in 20 minutes, Aly. You have to hold on a little longer, okay?' The Pakistani held his tears during these 20 minutes that, once again, seemed like an eternity.
The plane landed a few feet away from the bunker. Aly knew where it was, not him. He got out of the plane. He walked all over the area, trying to find a solution. He didn't have much time. Damn it,' he growled as he hit a rock. The rock wasn't weirdly hard.
'What the fuck is this shit?' He walked up to the rock and kicked it again.
It was soft as if he was hitting moss.
He bent down and grabbed the underside of the fake rock, and lifted it;
There was an eye-print scanner. Zayn placed his eye in front of the metal cover, and a robotic scanner came out and read his eye.
'Zayn Javadd Malik, agent 25789. Authorization requested. Access denied.' A robot voice stated. 'What?!' Zayn screamed.
'I wanna talk to Danilo Spoon, right the fuck now.'
!Access allowed.'
'What the fuck?' he whispered.A rock splits in two to reveal a passage. He took the stretcher out of the plane and rolled it to the entrance of the bunker. Two robots blocked their way. The first one said, 'request for identification.' 'I'm Zayn Malik, she's Alyssa Jonhson, but she's in serious condition and needs to be cared for: there's no time to lose.'
'Alyssa C Jonhson?' the second robot asked. 'Yeah...' Zayn scratched her head nervously.
The robot that had just spoken approached the young woman under the stressed look of her boyfriend.
'What the hell...' He began.
The robot moved his hand to her head and opened an eye.
'Are you crazy?!' Zayn screamed, pushing the robot away from her girlfriend.
'It's her,' the robot confirmed, completely ignoring Zayn.
'I'm Johanna, I'm sorry for my colleague's abrupt gesture, but we have to follow the procedure. The robot that hadn't touched Alyssa apologized.
'I don't give a damn about your procedure! I want you to take care of my girlfriend right now!'
'We're going to cure her.' Johanna insisted. The two bots pushed the stretcher into a room. Zayn couldn't follow them.
A hand rested on his shoulder. He grabbed this unknown hand and made an arm drag to the person behind him.
'Hey, calm down, I'm working here...'.
'Who're you?' Zayn asked coldly.
'Freddy Scott, the head of bunker security.'
'Don't move.' Zayn ordered.
He grabbed his watch and selected the IDA app.
'What's your number?'
'56869'
'Freddy Scott 56869'
'Identity confirmed.' The watch said.Zayn helped him stand up and walked towards the rooms.
There were so many of them that he couldn't know in which one he would be drowning; there were training rooms, shooting galleries?
'Zayn, excuse me,' Freddy yelled, 'your room is on the other side.'
It seemed like this area was forbidden... But Zayn was being too curious.
He gently turned his back and smiled at Freddy:
'Alright, thanks man!'
