Chapter 58 Truth hurts
'the fuck?' he whispered.
He opened the door that seemed to have been closed for months, even years.
The smell of dust mixed with the stale odor was not the most pleasant thing, but that was not the problem.
'why was this room hidden?' But, of course, that was only one of a million questions Zayn had. So he grabbed the first thing he could: an old box. Zayn opened it; Files, a dozen of files.
'Archives.' someone said.
Surprised, Zayn let down the box and put his gun out.
'Don't worry, kid. I'm just an old prisoner.' The same man repeated.
Zayn's eyes scanned the room without finding the guy.
'Behind the countertop.'
The young man was still holding the gun as he walked in the unknown man's direction.
'Wow.' he groaned, putting his elbow to his nose. 'Hey, I've been locked in there for eight months. It's not my fault!' The guy raised his handcuffed hands in the air.
'Yeah, and the smell of coagulated blood mixed with the lack of shower is not the best combo.' Zayn laughed.
While Zayn talked to the prisoner in the bunker, Selena was in her office with an agent who didn't do her job well.
'Can you explain to me how you fucking missed the job?' Selena whispered, massaging her temples.
'I'm sorry, Ma'am. I don't know what happened. The guy just didn't show up.' The teenager raised his hands to heaven.
'You're lying.' Selena smiled.
'What? No!'
'Aaron, please, don't take me for a fool. I've been in this business since I was born. No one can lie to me. I'm not Dan. You can tell me the truth. You're 19. I won't even blame you.' She promised.
'You're not gonna like that, Ma'am.' The young boy sighed.
She now was surrounded by a weird feeling, something was wrong, and she knew it had nothing to do with Aaron's mission.
'I'm not here to feel things, Carter, I'm here to make sure my agents are safe, 'specially when they're only 19, so now you're gonna forget you have a consciousness and you're gonna show me what you've been hiding in your jean's pocket for the last 39 minutes.'
'You're a good person, Ma'am. I don't want to hurt you.' The kid explained.
'I'm a strong woman, Aaron. Tell me what happened.'
The boy took a deep breath and eventually stopped lying.
'Who are you?' Zayn asked the prisoner.
'You won't believe me.'
'How'd you know?'
'Prove me wrong!' The guy laughed
'Depends on what you say.'
'Alright.' The smelly old man started, 'I'm Freddy Scott, I mean the real one.'
'What are you talking about?' Zayn nervously chuckled.
'Kid, I need you to listen to me.'
Zayn nodded, incapable of doing anything else, maybe he was too curious, or perhaps he didn't want to miss an opportunity to go after Freddy.
'I have been the chief of the security for decades. There is no place that's unknown to me. I know that it's hard to believe when I'm locked here. But Zayn, I swear to God it's true.'
'Zayn?' he repeated with a backward movement. 'I have never mentioned my name.' He said, sticking his gun on the prisoner's forehead. 'How do you know who I am? And don't you fucking dare lie to my face.'
'Take my wallet, kid. In my pocket.' Freddy said.
'What? Why?' zayn claimed.
'Take it!' he insisted.
Zayn did what the guy told him to; he grabbed the wallet and opened it: a dozen pictures rolled down.
'What is that.' zayn whispered.
'First picture: Spoon, J.D and Selena Dallas. Second picture me Alyssa Carrera and Selena Dallas.'
'You meant Alyssa Jonshon?' Zayn corrected him.
'Alyssa Jonshon is Alyssa Carrera.' Freddy said. 'Third picture Spoon and...'
'Who's on the eighth picture.' Zayn interrupted him.
His eyes were empty, devoid of emotions. Zayn's heart stopped beating when he saw that picture.
Freddy put his hand under his jacket and put out an old piece of paper eaten away by time.
'Take this, kid.' He handed him the paper.
'if you ever get a chance, tell zayn.' Zayn read before, unfolding the thick paper.
'Whos that baby?' zayn worried.
'Zayn, there is a lot of things that I need to tell you, kid. That's what he wanted.'
