chapter 64: Withdrawal

Zayn knocked on his beloved's door house.
'Finally.' She said, opening the door.
'I'm sorry for the late, I....'
'I don't even want to know.' she stopped him.
'How are you?' He asked her.
'That's not why you're here.' Aly coldly replied.
'Alyssa, I'm so sorry.' He apologized.
'You better be!' she started as she lightens her cigarette. 'Zayn, why did you do that?'
'It's the simulation. It made me crazy!'
'No, that's just an excuse on another excuse! And if it has to end, I think that I deserve the truth.'
'Alright.' he sighed, sitting on the porch. 'As I told you, the simulator made me crazy because I got stuck in it. Too many memories came back, and I remembered terrible, terrible things.'
'So you left me like a piece of shit.' she chuckled. 'Wow.'
'You know that I would never have done that in regular times. I just was in a period where everything was too intense and... I didn't mean to hurt you. I guess I somehow wanted to keep you out of it.' He looked at her, tears in his eyes.
'Zayn, I'm your girlfriend. You don't need to keep me out of this, especially when you're this level of hurt.' She said, sitting next to him.
'Alyssa, my dad isn't dead.' He announced, looking forwards.
'what?'
'I accepted to go undercover so that spoon would give me my father's file in its integrality.'
'Yeah, I know that.'
'After the simulation, Spoon gave it to me, and I stole another couple of files in the bunker's archives.' He continued.
'What did you find out?'
'He had a double life. He cheated on my mom.'
'I'm sorry.'
'Aly, I had just discovered that my entire life was a lie, and I had this weird feeling about Scott, who wasn't even the real Scott. I wasn't in a normal state of mind. I know that it isn't an excuse, but I swear to god, I don't want to lose you too.'
'You won't lose me.' she whispered, avoiding eyes contacts.
'You forgive me?' He smiled.
'No, but I understand.' She replied, meeting his deep brown eyes.
'I love you.'
'I love you too, Zayn. I love you to death, but god, you don't realize how much your emotions can affect me!'
'No, I know! And I'm sorry that I was too focused on my problems to see yours and that I was so jealous of fake Freddy. I'm so damn sorry!' He repeated.
'I do not doubt that....'
'Then what's wrong?' He demanded, posing his hand on her knee.
'Everything is always so complicated with you, and I love you for that. But right now, it just feels like everything is exploding into our faces.'
'No, it's not complicated.' He said.
'Oh, isn't it?' she frowned.
'No, it's not because I choose you over this.'
'What does this mean?' She asked.
'I chose to let go of my past. My dad's alive, okay-my brother is dead. I made mistakes, but it's all in the past. I want to move forward. I'll never look at this part of my life to solve mysteries, to have answers. You're my future. It's with you and for you that I want to live, to live fully.'
'There won't be a third time.' she said.
'There won't be a third time.' he repeated, a big smile painted on his lips.

He kissed her on the forehead before saying:
'I won't ever disappoint you again, I swear.'
'Prove it.' she laughed.
'Mmh, okay!' he smirked as he advanced towards her.
He bent down to kiss her lips. They rolled on the floor, laughing and kissing like nothing ever happened.
Life is short; you never know what's going to happen tomorrow.

Four weeks had gone by, time flew. Selena and James still weren't talking to each other. she was in pain and ashamed of spoon's behavior.
Zayn and Selena had discussed their parents' case.
'How the fuck is that even possible?' Selena uttered, outraged.
'That's crazy, I know.'
'Zayn, I won't invest time and money on a fucking impression. I've been disappointed too many times!'
'Leena... It's more than an impression.'

The four agents were now meeting in a tense and strange atmosphere. Nothing was like before.
They all had four appointments in the boss's office.
Nothing had changed, but everything seemed so different.
They knew what they had to do. Everything was going to go the way it was scheduled.
'Are you all ready?' Spoon demanded.
The four of them nodded without saying a word.
They all went to the big terrace where the private plane was waiting for them.
They could feel the light morning breeze in their faces and the hot vegas sun warming their suits.
None of them were sure they would ever return here, back home.
Everything in this environment was so uncertain, unpredictable, and intense.
Life was like a thread.
