Monoma stumbled back in surprise, eyes wide as he stared at the window where Shinsou's face had just appeared.

Is he the only one left? Monoma thought, after the shock had slightly worn off. I know he's not very social, but I thought he was cool with both of our classes.

Monoma's eyes widened marginally at his revelation. He didn't want to go.. because of me.

Look what you've done! Monoma shouted to himself in his mind. You've ruined his chance of enjoying himself because of how selfish you are!

Before he could think further, Monoma ran to the door and slammed it open, finding Shinsou on the stairs, probably on the way to his room.

"Shinsou!" Monoma yelled. He saw Shinsou flinch slightly at his words.

Seeing the other male flinch, it triggered something in Monoma, reminding him of why he had left Shinsou alone back in the forest before.

"Nevermind.." Monoma mumbled turning around.

"No you don't!" Shinsou shouted.

Monoma turned around to see Shinsou run towards him, grabbing his arm and dragging him inside, locking the door as he did so.

"What? Let me go!" Monoma protested.

"No. You don't get to come in here, shouting my name, only to run away again. I'm not letting you go anywhere this time." Shinsou said adamantly.

Monoma sighed, silently accepting his fate, as he was led to the couch. Shinsou took the note that he wasn't wanted near Monoma for the time being, so the lavender haired boy sat on the chair opposite the blond's.

"Care to explain why you were looking through the window, just for you to shout out my name?" Shinsou questioned, crossing his arms.

Monoma's eyes narrowed as he looked away. "I'm tired of waiting." He said.

Shinsou internally smirked. Finally, Monoma could apologize and they could all get past this-

"When are you finally going to apologize?"

Shinsou almost fell off the chair. "What?"

Monoma raised his eyes to meet Shinsou's. "You heard me. I'm tired of waiting for your apology."

"My apology?" Shinsou asked, confused. "I thought you were here to apologize to me!"

Monoma scoffed. "Why should I apologize to you? You're the one who cheated!"

Shinsou quickly grew annoyed, before he remembered something.

-

"Hey, Shinsou?" Monoma asked, after Shinsou had managed to get the blond to calm down and sit at one of the forest benches, instead of heading somewhere straight away.

"Yes, Monoma?" Shinsou replied.

"I'm sorry." Monoma apologized.

Shinsou's eyes widened. It was a rather rare occasion that the blond would apologize, sometimes even with his own classmates. "F-for what?" Shinsou managed to stutter out.

"For this. I'm not sure why you decided to be with me of all people, so I apologize. I'm sorry I accepted your feelings."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't have the... best reputation here. I'm sure your class may even hate you for this. So, I'm sorry I said yes."

"..You don't have to be sorry."

Monoma raised his head from where it had dropped in his knees. "What?"

"If anything, I'm sorry for whatever happened to make you think that." Shinsou grabbed Monoma's arm, giving him a soft smile. "Besides, you don't need to apologize for having feelings. They're a part of you."

"They're a part of us."

-

Do I really want to lose that? That friendship we had... even before it was a relationship. It felt special. Special in the way that it never felt with anyone else. Shinsou thought.

"Why are we fighting?" Shinsou whispered.

Monoma's eyes narrowed. "Because of what you did-"

Shinsou shook his head, cutting Monoma off. "What I mean is why are we fighting? We were friends before all this happened, and fights never took us apart, did they?"

Monoma looked solemn as he quitely mumbled a "No."

"So why is this different?" Shinsou questioned.

"Because there are feelings this time. This time it's not 'I like him and I hope he likes me back.' It's 'I thought he liked me back, but I guess he doesn't.'" Monoma answered, after a few seconds of silence.

"There don't have to be feelings." Shinsou said definitely.

Monoma perked up in surprise. "What?"

"If these feelings are what is tearing us apart," Shinsou gulped at his next words. "Maybe we should just forget them."

"Are you saying all our feelings, our emotions, we should just bury them and stay better off as friends?" Momoma asked, voice suddenly sad.

Shinsou breathed out a sigh. "I'm saying that we need to start afresh. If our method of dealing with this is with lies and arguments, we were never really a good couple in the first place, were we?"

Monoma slowly nodded. "I guess not."

Shinsou let himself show a soft smile, walking up to Monoma and holding out his hand. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Shinsou Hitoshi, from Class 2 A of the heroics course."

Monoma chuckled quietly, holding out his own palm and wrapping it around Shinsou's in a firm grip. "Monoma Neito, from Class 2 B of the heroics course."

-

"You chose to start over?" Kendo queried.

Monoma nodded, wiping the last tear he would allow himself to shed, soft laughter floating from him. "Crazy, right? But I guess it's the best course of action. I didn't trust him enough, and he didn't trust me enough."

Kendo sighed, but she still gave Monoma a warm smile. "I just hope you don't regret your decision."

She leaned in to whisper in Monoma's ear. "Don't worry, no one in Class A knows about your condition. They all thought it was just for the bonding time."

"Thanks Kendo." Monoma said, gratitude clear in his voice.

-

"You know, it's been months since we first started over. I can't believe it's already the winter before our third year." Monoma said, chuckling into the cold January air.

Shinsou hummed on the other end of the line. "I was thinking we should head back to that lake. It's been a while, hasn't it?"

Monoma nodded, before remembering Shinsou couldn't see him, as it was a voice call. "It has. I'm excited to go back. But why the lake? We've still done our morning runs."

"Well, I've got to keep the tradition, don't I?" Shinsou asked teasingly.

As they continued talking, Monoma looked back on the time he had gained amnesia.

Maybe I needed it. He thought. Because even with all the horrible stuff that happened;

My second year was actually pretty fun.
