Anastasia's POV:

After eating my dinner I laid down to sleep, the only light in the small room coming from the fire. Landon moved to the floor and Jonah was now trying and failing to make himself comfortable on the sofa.

Wow if that's what it means to serve royalty... giving up your bed or something close to that just to have to sleep on the floor... that's pathetic.

Landon's light snores filled the room and I felt bad that I was somewhat comfortable in my bed and he wasn't.

I glanced at Jonah who's eyes were now closed and he had his arms crossed over his broad chest. His feet were off the sofa since he didn't fully fit.

I don't feel bad for that guy.

I turned on my side away from Jonah and gripped a dagger to my chest, I was still wary of him. Who knows what he might be planning. I had to be ready for anything.

He scoffed. "You won't need that dagger. I don't bother killing mice." He said without even opening an eye.

I kept my retort to myself pretending I didn't hear him.

What a jerk!

Jonah's POV:

After drinking some tea which to my surprise was pretty good I started getting ready to go.

Landon was talking to Mouse Girl (which I decided was her new nickname because now thinking about it she kind of looked like a mouse) and they seemed to be getting along well. But we will not be seeing her again because I'm leaving today for the town and renting a carriage with the money I have with me.

I'm just dying to leave this hellhole of a cabin.

I wonder why she's living here, she looks young. Where are her parents?

I didn't dwell on that much longer and stood. "Landon we should go, we are already delayed enough."

Landon nodded and stood. "Thank you for everything, Anastasia. It was a pleasure meeting you." He said to her with a polite smile.

She stood too but didn't smile. "It was really no problem... but I should come too. I know the area better than you and frankly, you'd be safer too."

"Safer?" I asked.

What's she going to do?

She turned to me and if looks could kill...

"If you don't remember I did save your life from those rogue soldiers! Clearly, you two can't defend yourselves as much as you think."

I scoffed but Landon stepped forward. "I think she should come as well."

Oh god no.

"You are not coming," I said and started for the door. Landon heard my tone meant business so he followed after me.

I headed straight for a door which I soon realized didn't lead to the entrance but to some sort of backyard.

It was muddy and faced a big pool of water that I couldn't see the end of.

Great... a dead end.

Landon sighed to the sky. "What's so bad about her coming along? She'll help us."

I turned to him but before I could say something Anastasia came outside too and stood beside him. "Look I understand you got hijacked and your driver was a mole but come on! Your stupid male pride is getting in the way of asking for help. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman or because I'm a stranger but just don't be afraid to admit when you are wrong."
