"No. No no no! NO! YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED END NOW!!" I shouted with wide eyes.

"Bella, love, I told you not to get too attached." Kaz said with a smile.

"You know I'm incapable of getting attached, Kaz!"

He chuckled and came to sit next to me on the bed. "What happened this time?"

"He died! Jem died! Jem sacrificed himself to save Tessa! That is so adorable, I want to shuck this book across the room or smack myself with it for being stupid enough for not seeing this coming!" I ranted, closing the hardcover book.

"Woah, okay," Kaz pulled the book from my grasp. "Let's not get that drastic."

"Kaz! That was the END of the book. There is no other books after this! I'm panicking here!"

He smiled and set the book down on the desk, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my hair. "I've noticed."

———

I woke up in the Fold again. It was no different than how I saw it. But I haven't seen the darkness in months.

    "Congratulations," the Darkling said.

I turned around and saw him standing by his desk in the cabin, gesturing for me to come closer to him.

I walked towards him and stopped a few feet from him. ". . . thanks. I need to talk to you."

He nodded. "This is unexpected. Usually you want to assault me and feed me to the Volcra."

"Yeah, I might still do that."

He chuckled in amusement, dragging a hand through his hair. "What do you need to talk to be about, Arabella?"

    "Do you that we're—"

"Distantly related? Yea, I knew." He finished.

I looked at him in shock. "How long?"

    "Since we last spoke."

". . . you're disgusting." I hissed, loud enough for him to hear it.

"I've been called worse. But not by you. Never by you." He said, taking a step towards me.

"Never out loud. But I said plenty in my head." I crossed my arms.

He smirked and reached a hand up, cupping my chin in his hand and making me look at him. "And when was that, darling?"

"Don't you call me that again, Darkling."

He tisked and shook his head. "Now, is that any way to treat your brother?"

"Distant brother." I snapped back.

"Yes, I suppose we are. Distantly related. Tell me, how did it feel? To kiss your brother unknowingly?"

"I wanted to kill you. I still do."

He smiled and walked forward, backing me into the wall so I had nowhere to go.

"You didn't answer my question."

"You want to know how it felt? Okay, here. It felt like this." I brought my knee up and hit him where it mattered, smiling proudly when he doubled over in pain.

He recovered quickly after and looked at me with rage in his obsidian eyes. "That was stupid, seeing you have nowhere to go. I control everything around here, and I can easily throw you out to the Volcra."

"But you won't. Because, whether I like it or not, you still care for me. Not everything in your heart is black and rotted." I snarled.

"I take offense to that."

"Good."

"Do something for me."

"No,"

"If you don't, I'll find a way out of here. And once I do, the first person on my list is that Ketterdam brat."

"Don't you dare lay a hand on Kaz!"

He smirked. "I might now hurt him, but what about your sharpshooter friend?"

"Leave them out of this, Aleksander!" I pushed him back.

He chuckled darkly. "I like it when you say my name like that."

"You creep."

He grinned. "Our time is up. Until tomorrow, my dearest sister."

The Fold dissolved before my eyes.

He's back! Hey, so so so sorry for the delay of this chapter. I've just had major writers block. But I'm back now!
