— Emily's POV
A loud banging on my door woke me up at 8:30 this morning— a Saturday. I groaned, "Ughh coming!"

I opened it up and was met by JJ's cheerful exclamation, "HAPPY BIRTHDAYYY!"

I yawned, "Yep. Thanks."

She giggled and held something in front of me, "This is for you." A red velvet cupcake was presented to me with a single candle on it and the number 19 written in white icing.

I gave her a soft smile, "Thank you, baby, this is very sweet."

"Blow out the candle, blow it out!" I leaned forward and blew out the candle before picking up the cupcake from my giddy girlfriend who was clearly more enthusiastic about this date than I was. She sighed and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm just not a big birthday person."

Tara yelled from inside our room, "It's true, JJ!"

JJ lost some of her flamboyant energy, "Oh. Umm... So you don't wanna... do anything today?"

"Meh. I really just treat my birthday like a regular day."

"You're gonna have a tough time seeing Penelope today then. She treats everyone's birthday like Christmas."

I chuckled, "Why am I not surprised?" I noticed JJ was a little upset that I wasn't as excited about my birthday as she was, so I let her inside and said, "Okay how about this— how about you and I drive down to New York for the day? It's Saturday, so we can stay the night at a hotel in the city and then drive back tomorrow."

"R-Really?"

"Why not? It's only an hour away."

"I uh... I mean sure, it's your birthday. How are we gonna pay for that though?"

Tara laughed, "Oh don't worry about that, blondie, Emily's loaded!"

"Huh?"

I cleared my throat and smiled, "I-I'll take care of it, Jayje, don't worry about it." She nodded in agreement and then ran upstairs to quickly pack a small bag for the short trip. Once we were both ready, we hit the road.

Several hours later
"It's a really beautiful piece, isn't it?" JJ asked me as we admired artwork at the MET.

"For sure. The colors he combined over here are sick!"

JJ laughed at me, "I don't think I've ever heard someone use the word 'sick' to describe a piece of art at the MET."

"I'm a special kind of admirer."

She hummed, "Mmm I knew that already."

I growled as JJ attached her lips to my neck for a brief moment, "Soooo when do you wanna head outta here? Our hotel's not far and we could just order room service for dinner."

JJ frowned, "Dinner? I thought you wanted to take me back to the hotel for something else?" She tilted her head and wrapped her arms around my neck.

I smirked, "What did you have in mind?"

"Something extra special for your birthday."
