When The Moon Hits Your Eye

Our Thanksgiving recess just ended and today is everyone's first day back on campus. I've been staying in close touch with JJ over break, because I'm still obviously worried about how she's feeling. She said that her family was really helpful and gave her some support while she was home, which was a relief to me. I'm just getting out of my Calculus lecture and JJ was just leaving her first communications workshop session. The hall she was in was right next to mine, so I walked over to surprise her.

She stepped out of a small classroom along with two other girls, but waved goodbye to them and headed my direction when she saw me down the hallway. "What are you doing here, I thought you had Calc?"

I scooped her around her waist and pulled her against me, "It's 2:15, I just got out. Thought I'd surprise you."

"I love my surprise." She gently kissed my lips and then started walking down the hall with me while asking, "So how was break? What did DC have to offer?"

"Oh uh... There was a change of plans."

"What do you mean?"

"My mom couldn't make it back from London, so I couldn't go home to DC."

"What? You didn't tell me that? You texted me every day, Em!"

"I know, I know but I was more worried about you and I was just focused on how you were doing. I don't wanna drift onto me and my shit."

"That's sweet, Em, but I wanna know what's going on with you too. If I had known you wouldn't be able to go to DC, I'd have invited you home with me."

"Really?"

"Yeah, totally! My mom wouldn't mind at all."

"Thanks, babe, but I was all right. I went up to Chicago with Derek. His family knows me already so it was cool."

"Did you have fun?"

"Yeah it wasn't so bad. Played a lot of 1v1. I absolutely leveled Derek in that."

JJ giggled, "Good job, baby. It sucks that your season is ending soon."

I sighed, "I know. Only a couple more weeks. Same for you though, Jareau."

"Ugh don't remind me. My coach forced me to sign up for an indoor mini-season and I'm so not looking forward. I've got too much stuff to do as it is."

"Oh I almost forgot to ask, how was the workshop?"

"Meh."

"Just 'meh?' Do you wanna talk to Blake about it?" JJ's Comp professor was the one who told her to join this workshop and she didn't seem too keen on it to begin with. She talked to me about it and asked me what I thought she should do and I told her she could always join and then opt out if it becomes too much.

"I don't know yet, I think I wanna go to one or two more sessions before I decide to stick or not."

"Sounds good, babe. If you're ever super stressed you can always talk to me. About anything."

She wrapped her arm tighter around my side as we kept walking and hummed, "Thanks, Emmy. You always make me feel better."

"Speaking of which, you hungry?"

"You read my mind. Whatcha in the mood for?"

"Mozz—"

"Mozzarella sticks from the cafeteria, yeah I should've known." I laughed as JJ playfully rolled her eyes. Nothing gets passed her anymore.

"I love you so much."

"I love you too, Em."

"Kiss me."
