Let me tell you something about junior year of high school. It is not as fun as people make it seem. Only weeks into the school year, and we are loaded with homework.
At the beginning of study hall our teacher announced we had to work on homework silently today, which actually works out well for me. I have two more chapters to read in The Great Gatsby, and a ton of math homework.
I glanced at toward the front of the room, to make sure our teacher wasn't paying attention. Then I scribbled a note to Christina, who was sitting in front of me.
Study sesh. in library today? AAT is killing me! -T
Math is my work subject. I was okay at geometry but Advanced Algebra and Trig is like hell.
Even though I had a lot of work to do, I couldn't focus on it. As I waited for Chris' reply I tapped my pencil to the beat of an old Fifth Harmony song.
Just as I went back to reading, a note hit me right between the eyes. I snapped my head up, and Chris mouthed sorry.
Reading her note, I smiled and gave a thumbs up back.
Definitely. Ill get Will to help us with math. also, I need your help with english essay. -C.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the hour. Carelessly, I threw my stuff into my bag, eager to get to our music class. Chris and I quickly join our group when we get there.
"Okay! Quiet please." Mrs Wilson announced. "We're moving into a new unit today." She paused while the class collectively sighed in relief.
"Yes, I know we're all so disappointed to not be learning about classical musicians anymore." She continued. "I thought we'd try something more fun, and move onto our singing unit!"
Just about every head In the room turned to us.
Kids in the halls still have not stopped staring and whispering when we pass them. I wanted to scream:
Yes, I went on a tour as a teenager! No, I am not an animal in the zoo for you to stare at!
"Since I'm much better at playing instruments than singing, I thought someone-or a group maybe- would like to do a little number for us." Mrs Wilson's eyes rested on Me,Chris,Shuana, and Marlene.
Me all shared exasperated glances, and walked to the small stage together.
"Can we use our phones to choose music?" Marlene asked. Wilson, however, hardly acknowledged the question. She nodded, but just looked like she wanted us to get on with it.
"So what do we sing?" Shuana asked, as we all huddled together to discuss.
"Mar let me see your phone" I searched for the right song and showed them all. "It's been stuck in my head all day."
"Sounds good. We all know the song really well."
"Whenever you're ready, girls." Wilson called. She doesn't understand that, for us, performances are kind of a process.
Taking our spots at our respective instruments/mics, we started.
My heart is telling me that you were gonna change, but I know
My heart is lying right to my face, yeahMy heart is making up excuses for your ways, but I wish that
My heart knew when I should walk away.It let's me down, it helps me as I get back up off the ground
While telling me that this is love but I found
It wasn't really on my side, now I think it's time
