"I can't believe you used on me," Abilene complained for what felt like the hundredth time since waking up in Reid's arms. Rolling her eyes as she zipped up her uniform skirt Dakota once again told her it was for her own good, "You needed to sleep," she told her simply.
"No amount of sleep is going to make me feel any less dirty," Abilene muttered as she packed her school bag. "You have nothing to feel dirty about," Dakota declared hearing her best friend.
"I thought it was Reid. Remember when we were younger, and we used to walk into each other's dreams? That's what I thought it was," she told her, "How am I supposed to let Reid touch me again like that when someone tainted it?"
"By talking to him. Telling him how you're feeling. He'll understand," Dakota answered, "You know I love Reid, I do, but when you guys started your fling or whatever I figured you two were just using each other to feel better but last night," she stopped shaking her head, "Abilene that boy loves you and he'll do anything for you."
Chewing on her lip Abilene nodded, "I'll talk to him," she decided, before changing the subject, "What about you and Tyler? Don't think it escaped my notice you two were sharing a bed."
Scoffing Dakota rolled her eyes, "He and I have shared a bed before," she responded as she picked up her bag and headed for the door. "Yeah, when we were like nine. It's a bit different at seventeen," Abilene laughed following Dakota to the door.
"Tyler doesn't see me like that," she stated before pulling the door open shrieking at the boy standing directly in front of their door, "Good God, man, what are you doing?" she gasped.
"Abilene invited me to breakfast this morning," Chase responded stepping back from the doorway as the two girls entered the corridor.
"She did?" Dakota questioned, raising her eyebrow at Abilene.
"Yeah, sorry, I forgot to tell you with everything going on," Abilene answered. "If it's a big deal I don't need to join you," Chase offered looking between the girls.
"No, no, it's okay," Abilene assured him, "We just had some stuff going on last night and I forgot to mention it to her."
"Oh, well I hope you slept okay," the boy responded staring at Abilene so intently it made her breath catch. Blinking she nodded, "Fine thank you," she replied, politely, "We're just waiting on Reid and Tyler, and I think Pogue and Caleb are meeting us downstairs too."
Nodding Chase gave her a half smile, "You six are pretty close, huh?"
"We grew up together," Dakota told him, "We're like family."
"Must've been nice," Chase remarked, "I'm adopted so didn't really have a lot of family growing up. You know, people to tell you about yourself."
Abilene couldn't explain the shift she felt in the boy in front of her. He seemed nice and polite with his smile in place, but she felt almost a resentment rolling off of him. Which made no sense as they had only just met, he had no reason for resentment.
