Bella left Spokane and was always on the move. She never stayed at any place for more than three months and maximum four months. She stayed for a while, worked a job with her forged documents as a cook or baby sitter or mechanic. She also worked as a bar tender in most of the cities she stayed in. It was a constant job she stayed at in any city. It was a night job. Bars were open all night and they were crowded and they were safe. Sometimes she bakes cakes for birthdays in some places and sold them online or at a local store.
She travelled to Oregon from Spokane under the name Amelia Jones, where she stayed a month and took her exams. she needed a steady living space to concentrate on her studies for exams. She found a small apartment in a crowded area and rented it for a month with difficulty. No one wants to rent to small term tenants. When she had to attend practical exams, the college arranged with a local college in the area she is staying at to take her exams and transfer the scores. She had to pay hefty price for it, but it was worth the trouble. She paid less for online classes than attending university anyway. These extra costs were nothing much compared to the original estimate for her four years of study. Bella wanted to complete her major in three years instead of the common four. She worked hard.
It may not matter later in the future, but she wanted to show Charlie that she was studying, she was achieving his dream of seeing her make something of her.
From there she travelled to Nevada. She didn't know why, but she knew she had to travel to the cities she was going, in the direction she was going. She stayed in Nevada for three months and found a job as a mechanic and a musician in a restaurant in the city.
She was beginning to think it was a waste of time and her paranoia that she was constantly moving when there was no one following her. She stayed for another month working the jobs and thinking of settling down in Nevada. She was tired of the constant moving. She was on the move for more than a year now.
She loved travelling, what she didn't like was having to look back every second, not being able to talk to the pack, leaving behind the few friends she made without a way to contact her or never being able to talk to them again. She missed talking to Angela, Ben and Kelly.
She decided she would talk to the pack. She gathered what little courage she had and called the rez.
"Hello? Billy Black here." Billy answered. She did call Jake's home.
"Billy? It's Bella." She said and without her having to ask anything or tell him to, he called for the boys. She could hear him on the phone, "Jake, it's Bella on the phone, call everyone here, won't you?" She could hear Jake scrambling downstairs and running out of the house and shouting for the pack.
"Bella? How are you? Where have you been?" Jake started asking her questions. "It has been a year since you left Bells. You didn't even tell us that you were well." He sounded worried, excited and thrilled that I finally called.
"I am so sorry I didn't call Jake. I was worried I would put you in danger or that some one would trace me if I called you. I am in Nevada." She answered with a smile, "Where are the others?"
"They are here." They were on the phone for more than an hour, exchanging news, reassuring that yes, everything was fine, yes everyone is well, happy, moving on. Emily was pregnant and it was a girl and she was due in two months. Jake graduated and was thinking of going to college in Seattle, so he could be near home if needed and also get education which would be easy to pay for other younger pack members' education and buy clothes every time they tore them apart and food for them as they are always hungry. He got in school on a scholar ship.
She was glad when they finally had nothing to talk about, the excitement calmed down after they learnt that she was alive and well and they ended the call.
Bella, later learnt a very regrettable lesson. Maybe if she stayed in Nevada it wouldn't matter before. But she called the rez and told them she was in Nevada. She was thinking of settling down here before moving to California to complete her studies. She wouldn't think of moving for the rest of the two years left in her education.
It all went down the drain. Someone was indeed keeping an eye on the rez. Someone came after her. It was two vampires, they were wearing the cloaks she saw in a painting in Carlisle's office. They also had the 'V' Pendants every member of the guard wears around their neck.
Bella was most grateful for her shield at that moment in life. It saved her. She always kept a thin bubble around her to completely cover her scent. It's not like humans will notice if she doesn't have a scent unlike vampires and she seldom had physical contact with the humans.
One of the vampires was a young girl around thirteen. She couldn't see any details as they wore cloaks to cover themselves. The other was a male vamp. That's all she could guess from the cloaks and their body height and shape. She left town in the next hour. She packed everything important and left before night fall.
She reached the next town at midnight. She would take some rest and get on the road again in the morning.
The next morning, things did not go to plan.
Well, when didn't Bella's plans not backfire?
