"You made it!" Cherry smiles embracing me in a hug as I sit down next to her.
"Yep, anything to get out of that evil house," I laugh as the movie starts. It's some sort of beach movie, celebrating the end of summer since the school year is just around the corner.
We remain surprisingly quiet taking in every ending minute of summer. With school starting in a few weeks this is one o four last free movie nights. The movie isn't half bad so that helps with the lack of conversation. Every once in a while Cherry breaks the silence to comment on the film or explain some random special thought rummaging through her head.
As I sit here with them the guilt in the bit of my stomach does not ease up and my mind continually wanders to images of my greaser friends.
Just as I am thinking of possibly the kindest people in town despite their sour reputation the actual worst people I have met show up. It is none other than Bob, Randy, and David.
"Hey look it's the guys," Marcia cheers just now noticing them walk our way. Even then walking towards us is unusual. Knowing them for the short time that I have I know that at any drive-in they will do anything to stay in their fancy cars.
Honestly being scared at the simple sight of the guys I quickly make up an excuse to leave the drive-in.
"Hey Cherry, I just remembered that I need to be somewhere," I whisper trying my hardest to avoid David especially.
"What? Is it because of the boys?"
"No, no, not really," I obviously lie, "I'm just starting to feel sick. Too much coke I guess,"
"We'll feel better," Cherry hesitates genuinely sounding concerned. But she and I both know that her concern is not because of my fake sickened, but because of my constant need to get away from David.
"Thanks," I quickly reply before getting up to walk to my bike.
My excuse is probably the worse one in the book. 'I just remembered I need to be somewhere... ' god that sucks.
If anything I find it extremely ironic because of my need to be nowhere. Sure I should be at home in bed because of being grounded and all but hey if I am already out what's the harm in having some fun.Not thinking before my next move I walk over to the payphone just outside the entrance gate and rummage through my bag for Soda's number. After finding the scrap of paper I find the exact amount of change to make the call.
The phone just goes to the dial tone, the line ends. They must all be out or something, maybe asleep even.
In a way relieved of the Curtis household's dial tone, I decide to just ride my bike around town. I figure it might not be the safest life choice but hey I already have my mindset on having some sort of fun before school returns. I'm feeling rebellious, I am not going to let this feeling go to waste.
I make my way past downtown and continue on the foreign roads of Tulsa Oklahoma. I let my bike take me wherever it pleases in an effort to see more of the city that I now call my home. I bike past a few parks that I had never noticed, a few random buildings and shops, along with of course rows and rows of houses.
I do well to bike past the houses as they get progressively more and more run down. I then find myself stopped outside of a bar-looking building where a crowd of people are cheering. There must be a fight or something going on.
Ignoring my moral compass and letting my rebellious streak continue I throw my bicycle at the sidewalk and make my way over to the crowd.
I watch as two guys roll on the ground trying their hardest to knock each other out. Amidst all of the excitement, I look up into the audience and see an angry-looking Dallas Winston staring back at me.
