After helping clean up dinner I meet everyone around the table for some more poker. It is time to beat Dallas Winston's ass, time to knock some sense into him.
We all watch him intently as he shuffles, his hands are delicate enough to play the piano if he wanted but rough enough to kill a man. Every vain and wound seductively on display as he shows off his skills. He then takes a break from looking at the cards to look up at me, and from across the table, he fucking winks. I tense my eyes at him in response annoyed with his constant self-assurance.
"So what are we betting, real bills or fake ones?" He asks as he finishes shuffling the cards only to hand them to Darrel who is the true dealer. Darry wasn't shuffling originally because he was finishing up a phone call. But it would be hard to believe that anyone could do a better job at working those cards than Dallas was.
"Hey I ain't got no money for betting, I thought we were just playin for fun," Johnny responds pulling his chips in closer to him in a protective way.
"Well is anyone up for betting something real? Or are you all too big of pussies?" Dallas snaps as he begins to sort through his stack.
"Fine, I'm in," I reply, "How much ya betting?" I ask scanning my cards. I automatically notice that I have a full house. Not horrible but not worth betting my life on.
"Hmmm," Dallas ponders, "I'll bet one dollar," He grins.
Everyone reacts with scratching heads, Johnny and Pony retreat right away, Two-Bit and Soda shortly after. This leaves Steve with his choice, to bet or not to bet.
"Awe what ya thinking Dally boy?" Steve mocks staring Dally down. They glare at each other for a minute before Steve finally retreats, his cards must have been shit in the first place, when playing earlier Steve never played this safe.
"So what do I say you, Christine?" Dally asks, dragging out the T like he always does.
"Hm," I shortly reply before scanning my cards again. Full house? Is a dollar really worth that? I then look back up at Dallas, his smug expression eating at my soul.
"You're on and I'll raise you $00.50," I claim trying to get him to back off.
"I'll take that bet," He smirks before throwing his cards on the table. Four of a kind... he was bullshitting too, but not as bad as I was.
"Shit," I mumble throwing him the $1.50 from the depths of my purse.
"It's okay, you did pretty well for a first bet," Soda smiles before rubbing my back, trying to make me feel better.
"Wanna lose some more money tonight darling?" Dallas asks blocking my chance to respond to Soda after stashing the cash in his pocket, "Let's say a $1 buy-in? I'm gonna be rich,"
"Awe come on man," Pony whines tipping his stack over, clearly annoyed by our pettiness.
"You're on big shot," I hiss throwing the dollar chip in.
"Anyone else?" Dallas asks receiving some annoyed frowns, "Alright princess it's just you and me. But remember, I don't lose,"
"Yeah right, I think it's time for a rain check," I scowl as Darrel passes out the hand.
I allow myself a second to breathe before looking over my cards. Time to scan Dallas to see how he reacts to his hand. His poker face could kill, he has absolutely no reaction. Finally bottling up the courage to look at my cards I have to try my hardest not to sound relieved. I've got a Royal Flush. The best damn hand in the whole game. With a smirk on my face, I insist on raising, "How about I raise you to $5?"
