Unpacking groceries was easy enough, Mother seems to still be over at Kathy's so there was no annoying distraction. After finishing my job I grab the bouquet and walk next door to Aunt Kathy's.

"Oh good, you're back," Mother cheers grabbing the flowers from my hand as I walk into Kathy's kitchen, "We were just prepping for the church brunch tomorrow," She smiles showing off the fruit jello she has been cooling all day.

"Sorry I took so long, I was having issues navigating with all of the groceries," I lie after noticing that it is already somehow 3:00 pm.

"It is alright, thank you for the flowers," She replies more relieving than I thought she would be.

"By any chance, could I go have dinner over at Cherry's, possibly could I spend the night there? I will be back in time for church tomorrow morning," I add knowing that would be her biggest expectation.

"I think she deserves it, she did buy your groceries after all. I am sure she is going mad cooped up in that house," Aunt Kathy explains and I give her a very thankful smile.

"Hmm, be back at 9:00 am at the latest, that way you can wash up before church," Mother reluctantly answers surprising me.

"Are you serious? I can go?"

"Yes, and bring one of my Jellos over, we had extra so I made two,"

"I love you, I love you, I love you!" I reply giving her a hug.

"Now calm down," She demands, "I am off to the cemetery now, I guess I will see you tomorrow morning,"

"See you tomorrow," I reply before walking out with her.

I practically race to the telephone once Mother is far out of sight, ready to dial Soda's number. One ring, two rings, three- "Hey, this is Darrel,"

"Hi Darry, it's Christine, Sodapop invited me over for dinner and I just wanted to call to confirm that I can come over," I exclaim almost too excited.

"Oh, well we will be happy to have you over again,"

"I am happy to come over, my Mother also gave me a fruit Jello to bring over. I personally can't stand that crap but I am sure between a bunch of guys it will get eaten.

"I am sure you are right,"

"Well thanks, tell Soda I said so, he seemed excited to have me over,"

"Sure thing," He replies, "Well see ya tonight,"

  "Alright, bye now,"

With that, the line goes dead and I realize I never asked for a ride. Part of me knows why, I don't want to ask Soda, I want to ask Dallas for a ride.

Returning to the phone I dial Dally's number. "Come on don't be Buck, don't be Buck," I whisper to myself as the line rings.

  "Hello," Buck's voice rings, ugh.

"Hey, It's Christine again, is Dallas around yet?"

"Oh yeah he got back about an hour ago, I forgot to let him know you called," He snickers.

"Well, can you bring the phone to him? I need to talk to him," I reply and he obliges annoyed, "Dallas I've got another one of your broads on the line," I hear him yell in the distance. The line goes silent for a second before Buck brings it back to his ear, "He said he is not here,"

"What? Well, obviously he is if he had the chance to tell you he isn't. Plus you told me he is there. Use my name this time will ya, say 'Christine' I'm not one of his broads. Trust me," I snap and he once more agrees once more, this time really annoyed.
