As daylight came after their first escape from the Witch and her spies, the four children and the beavers continued their journey to meet Aslan. It has been a long walk for them. They are now walking across the stone bridge looking at the land further away from them. They were seemingly halfway to Aslan's location, but not quite.
"Now, Aslan's camp is near the Stone Table just across the frozen river." Mr. Beaver explained.
"River?" Peter asked.
"Oh, the river's been frozen solid for a hundred years." Mrs. Beaver said.
"It's so far!" Peter said.
"It sure does." Dawn agreed.
"It's the world, dear." Mrs. Beaver said. "Did you expect it to be small?" Susan didn't look very amused. "Smaller." She said and continued on with them. As time went by, Peter, Dawn, Susan, Lucy and the beaver couple were walking across a huge frozen lake. They feel quite tired, but did they best to keep up with Mr. and Mrs. Beaver.
"Come on, humans!" Mr. Beaver shouted. "While we're still young!" Peter was getting a little annoyed with the beaver's commands. He bent down to give Lucy a piggyback ride. "If he tells us to hurry one more time, I'm gonna turn him into a big, fluffy hat." He said. Dawn giggled nervously by what her boyfriend just said.
"I heard that!" Mr. Beaver said.
"Sorry!" Peter called out.
"Hurry up!" Mr. Beaver yelled. "Come on!"
"He is getting a little bossy!" Lucy complained.
"No! Behind you!" Mrs. Beaver yelled, pointing at the tiny sleigh from the distance coming towards them. "It's her!"
"The Witch!" Dawn gasped in horror.
"Run! Run!" Mr. Beaver yelled.
"Run!" Peter commanded. He took Lucy's hand and they all started running for their life. They didn't stop running until they found a hole to hide under.
"Inside!" Mr. Beaver ordered the children. "Dive! Dive!"
"Quick! Quickly!" Mrs. Beaver panicked. The six friends dove down into a little cave and went in very still, watching the pile of snow shadow in front of them. A few snow drops down as someone moves about over them and walks away.
"Maybe she's gone." Lucy said in relief.
"I suppose I'll go look." Peter said as he was about to get up, but Dawn grabbed his arm and shook her head no.
"No!" Mr. Beaver warned Peter. "You're worth nothing to Narnia dead!" Dawn nodded in agreement.
"Well, neither are you, Beaver." Mrs. Beaver added.
Mr. Beaver took her paws in his. "Thanks sweetheart!" He said. The beaver scrambled up top to check to see who it was. The others wait nervously, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
"What's that?" Susan wondered. "What's..." Peter cut his sister off. "Shh, shh, shh..." he shushed her.
Mr. Beaver suddenly popped his head down, causing Lucy to shriek and Dawn to gasp.
"Come out! Come out!" He said excitedly. "I hope you've all been good 'cause there's someone here to see ya!" The children looked at each other and slowly started to come out. They emerged out of the cave and saw a sleigh and reindeers. Standing by them, was Father Christmas, who waiting for them and laughing happily. Lucy smiled. "Why, hello."
"Merry Christmas, sir." Dawn said with a smile.
Father Christmas smiled. "It certainly is, Lucy, since you have arrived."
