She turned herself into a bird and flew to the castle. There, she located Edmund and landed in front of him. Esther turned back into a girl. "Are you sure you know what you are doing?" Esther asked him.
"Well, yeah." Edmund scoffed. "I just want to try Turkish delights again." Esther didn't try to stop him, but she knew what would happen next. She groaned by his answer and had no choice but to accompany Edmund to the castle. They were surrounded by the statues of the creatures whom her mother turned them into. They then came across the wolf lying near the bottom of the stairs. As they both started to walk over it, thinking it was a stone wolf, it pounced on them. "Be still, stranger! Or you'll never move again!" He growled. "Who are you?"
"Ed-Edmund." Edmund said. "I met the Queen in the woods!" Edmund said. "She told me to come back here! I'm a Son of Adam!" Maugrim nodded. "Hmm. My apologies, fortunate favorite of the queen." He said. "Or else, not so fortunate." The wolf turned to Esther and growled. "Here to see your mother, Estherrrr?" He asked. Esther scowled at the wolf. "Yeah right, Maugrim!" She bravely snarled. "Right this way." Maugrim accompanied both Edmund and Esther up to the steep icy stairs and up to the castle. Nearby, an empty was an empty throne with a long white fur stole. "Wait here, you two." The wolf said and walked off.
Edmund went up the stairs to the throne, but Esther stayed were she was. Momentarily, Jadis the White Witch, her mother, approached to the throne where Edmund was sitting. And she laid her hand on it.
"You like it, Edmund?" She asked him. Edmund got off the throne and bowed to the White Witch.
"Y-Yes, your majesty." He said. Jadis then sat on the throne and turned her gaze on Edmund.
"Tell me...are your sisters deaf?" She asked him.
"N-no." Edmund answered, looking a little puzzled. Esther sighed by his answer in relief. Then Jadis continued to question him.
"And is your friend...narcissistic?" She asked.
"No, your majesty..." Edmund said. "Of course not!"
"Phew~!" Esther sighed again.
"And your brother...is he...unintelligent?" The Witch asked again.
"Well, I think so." Edmund said. "But I guess Mum..." Before Edmund could finish, the Witch suddenly got up.
"Then HOW DARE YOU COME ALONE??!!" She asked in an angry, yet terrifying voice. This scared Edmund and Esther. Esther narrowed her eyes at Edmund as in to say this is all his fault.
"I tried!" Edmund said desperately.
The Witch walked up to him. "Edmund, I asked so little of you." The Witch said coldly. Edmund backed away a little.
"They just don't listen to me!" He tried to reason with her.
"You couldn't even do that." She wouldn't buy Edmund's words.
"I did bring them half way." He finally said. "They're at the little dam with the Beavers." The dwarf looked at the Witch.
"Well." She said in a calm manner. "I supposed you're not a total loss then, are you?" Edmund shook his head no. He then approached to the White Witch. "Well, I was wondering, could I maybe have some more Turkish delight now?" He asked. Esther gave him the look. Jadis turned to the dwarf. "Our guest is hungry." She said to him. The dwarf turned to Edmund.
"This way, for your nom-noms!" He said. The dwarf took his by the ear and Esther by the wrist.
"Get off of me!" Esther squirmed.
"Argh!" Edmund grunted in pain and frustration. The Dwarf took them to the dungeon.
"Ow!" Edmund complained as he was pushed into an icy cell along with Esther. "Maugrim!" Jadis called out to the wolf. "You know what to do." The wolf nodded and left. Now Edmund was having the most disappointing and unfair time meeting up with the White Witch. He and Esther both were chained and shackled in an icy cell, cold and chilly. Esther frowned. "This is all your fault!" She angrily yelled.
"I'm sorry!" Edmund shouted back. "I didn't know that the Queen—I mean the Witch—ugh, whatever! I didn't know that woman was going to be mean to me like this!"
The Princess bit her lip. "Why do you think I don't live with her?" She asked, getting very upset. "Why do you think it's been winter here since forever? Why do you think my parents aren't together....." She was close to tears. "Break it up, both of you...!" A voice rang out from a neighbouring cell with a moan. Edmund and Esther turned their gaze to see a Faun, who turned out to be Mr. Tumnus, huddled up against an icy cold wall.
"Mr. Tumnus...." Esther gasped. "What happened?"
"I...I got arrested by the Witch's spies for helping Lucy..." Mr. Tumnus' voice quivered. "I'd get up...but my legs..."
Edmund crawled up to the faun. "Y-you're Mr. Tumnus...?" He said to him.
"What's left of him." He replied as he noticed Edmund closely for the first time.
"You're Lucy Pevensie's brother." He said.
"I'm Edmund." Edmund said to the Faun.
"You two have the same nose." Mr. Tumnus said. Esther snorted. "But Lucy is nicer...." Mr. Tumnus ignored Esther's comment and continued to talk to Edmund.
"Is your sister alright?" He wanted more information from him. "Is she safe?"
The trio heard the barking sound of the wolves. Edmund sighed. "I don't know." Was all he could say at this time. Jadis soon came into the dungeon. Edmund and Mr. Tumnus scooted back to their spots.
"My police tore that dam apart." Jadis let Edmund knew. "Your little family and friend are nowhere to be found!" She grabbed Edmund by his shirt collar and lifted him off the icy ground. "Where did they go?" She asked coldly.
"I don't know!" Edmund stammered.
"Then you're of no further use." The Witch responded as she threw him on the floor and raised her wand. "Wait!" Edmund cried. "The beavers said something about Aslan!" These words drew Esther and Mr. Tumnus' attention. Esther gave Edmund a look as in to be quiet. Jadis lowered her wand. "Aslan?" The White Witch said. "Where?"
Esther glared at Edmund. "He's a stranger here, your Majesty." Mr. Tumnus intervened. "He can't be expected to know anything." The dwarf who stood next to the Witch hit him with the bottom of his staff to silence him. "No! Don't!" Esther cried to the dwarf. The dwarf turned to Esther and was about to hit her until Jadis said. "No." She then turned her gaze back to Edmund. "I said...WHERE is Aslan?" She asked again.
Edmund looked at Mr. Tumnus' and Esther's pleading eyes and then back to Jadis. "I..I don't know!" He said. "I left before they said anything. I wanted to see you!" Jadis ignored Edmund and called up to her guard. Just then, an ugly goblin in an armour arrived at the dungeon. "Your majesty." He said in a disgusting voice.
"Release the faun." She ordered the goblin guard. The guard breaks the shackle causing Mr. Tumnus to cry out in pain. Esther looked away from the scene and covered her face. "Do you know why you're here, Faun?" The Witch asked him.
"Because I believe in a free Narnia." Mr. Tumnus replied sadly.
"You're here because.." She began and then she pointed her wand at Edmund. "He turned you in. For sweets." Mr. Tumnus looked at Edmund in disbelief and he turned his head away in guilt, realizing what he had done. Esther sighed and whispered. "Oh dear..."
"Take him upstairs." Jadis ordered the guard. She turned to the dwarf. "And ready my sleigh." Then she gave Edmund and Esther a mock sympathy look. "Edmund misses his family and friend. And Esther misses her 'friends'." Jadis walked out of the dungeons leaving Edmund curled up in guilt and shame. Esther bit her lip and turned her back away from Edmund.
