The next morning, Esther turned herself into a bird and flew out of the camp to go find Mr. Tumnus. As she made it to Mr. Tumnus' cave house, something terrible and horrifying awaited her. "Mr. Tumnus?" No reply. Esther opened the door and went inside. The house was completely damaged and ransacked. The door was open and looked like as if someone barged in, the house smelled like no one had live in for several days. Many furniture were broken and shattered all over the place and the picture of Mr. Tumnus' father was slashed with claws. She gasped seeing the house a mess. "Mr. Tumnus." She then saw the note and gasped as she rode to the Beavers house. "Oh, gosh...how could this be?" Esther said to herself. "I have to go tell the other creatures...stat!"
The Princess rushed out of Mr. Tumnus cave and turned herself into a lioness. She raced to the Beavers dam where Mr and Mrs. Beaver resided. Esther knocked on their door with one of her paws and Mrs. Beaver heard her coming. "Esther dear, what's wrong?" She asked. Esther turned back into her usual human self and panted hysterically. "Mr. Tumnus..." She panted. "He...he..he was taken by them! My mother's spies! Please help!" Mrs. Beaver's eye widen. "Dear!" She called her husband. "Honey!"
Mr. Beaver came over. "What's wrong? Oh, hi Esther." He said. Esther gave him a quick weak smile. Mrs. Beaver told Mr. Beaver what had happened. "Tumnus.." Mrs. Beaver said. "Our dear friend got arrested by the Witch's spies!" Esther nodded. "It's almost time."
The beavers nodded. "Honey, stay here." Mr. Beaver told his wife. "Esther and I will go out and investigate." Mrs. Beaver nodded. "Of course." Esther turned back to a lioness. She and Mr. Beaver then headed out to the snowy land and headed to Tumnus' cave. As soon as they went, they heard voices. They saw the five children in a glance. "That's them." Esther whispered. Mr. Beaver nodded. And he found a handkerchief. "We should go to them." Mr. Beaver went in front of Esther and approached to the children. The tall boy with caramel blonde hair who stood in front of the other four children reached his hand out to the beaver.
"Here, boy.." He said, clicking his tongue. Mr. Beaver looked at the boy's hand and to him. "Well I ain't gonna smell it if that's what you want." He said, which surprised the children as if they never saw an animal talking like a human before. Esther walked beside Mr. Beaver and smiled lightly to the tall boy.
"Don't mind Mr. Beaver." She told him. "He can be like that sometimes."
"Who are you?" The girl with straight blackish brown hair asked. Esther turned herself back into her human self. Esther." She introduced herself. "And this is my friend, Mr. Beaver."
"I know." The girl smiled. "Lucy told me about you." Esther smiled again. "I'm Dawn. Dawn Jameson." She introduced. Esther smiled. "How lovely, you three must be Susan, Peter, and Edmund." She turned to the dark haired boy, who turned out to be Edmund. Edmund raised an eyebrow at the girl, cheeks turning bright red.
Another girl with long brown hair and light blue eyes, who happened to be Susan, raised her eyebrow. "How do you know our names, Esther?" She asked. Esther frowned at her. "Magic, duh." She said rudely and turned and walked off from Susan. Mr. Beaver looked at Lucy. "Lucy Pevensie?" He said to her.
"Y-yes..?" She said out of curiosity. Mr. Beaver handed Lucy as handkerchief that said 'L.P.' Lucy took the handkerchief.
"That's the hanky I gave to Mr..." Lucy began.
"Tumnus." Mr. Beaver cut her off. "He got it to me just before they took him." He added.
"Is he alright?" Lucy asked.
"Further in." Mr. Beaver simply answered. As he and Esther scurried off, waiting for the five children to catch up with them, but they heard a little commotion while doing so. "Is everything alright?" Esther and the beaver asked as they called out in unison.
"Yes." Peter called out. "We're just talking."
"That's better left for safer quarters." Mr. Beaver replied. The four children tilted their heads in confusion.
"He means the trees." Esther let them knew. And Lucy nodded. Peter shrugged and took Lucy and Dawn's hand and followed the beaver and Esther. The others joined in not knowing whether or not they could trust them. The walk to wherever they were en route to took quite a while.
"Come on." He called out to the five children. "We don't want to be caught out here after nightfall."
They walked under a bridge and then they see the Dam in middle of a frozen pool. Smoke rose from the chimney of the dam.
"Ah, blimey!" Mr. Beaver said at last. "Looks like the old girl has got the kettle on. Nice cup o' Rosy Lee."
"It's lovely." Lucy said. The dam was quite big, but not as big as Mr. Tumnus' cave. Unlike the snow outside, it was warm and cozy.
"It looks very nice." Dawn nodded.
"It's merely a trifle." The beaver replied. "Still plenty to do. Ain't quite finished it yet. It'll look the business when it is, though." Then, Mrs. Beaver came out of the dam worrying for her husband. "Beaver, is that you?" She hysterically called out. "I've been worried sick! If I find you've been out with Badger again I..." Mrs. Beaver then saw the five children and Esther. "Oh! Well, those aren't badgers. Oh, I never thought I'd live to see this day." She then turned to her husband. "Look at my fur. You couldn't give me ten minutes warning?"
"I'd have given a week if I thought it would've helped." Mr. Beaver chuckled. Mrs. Beaver smiled. She turned to the six people.
"Oh, come inside." She welcomed them. "and see if we can't get you some food, and some civilized company." Peter, Dawn, Susan, Edmund, Lucy and Esther walked into the dam.
"Now careful." Mr. Beaver warned them. "Watch your step." Everyone got inside the Beavers' dam except Edmund, who was staring at the two hills.
"Enjoyin' the scenery, are we?" Mr. Beaver asked him. Edmund shook his head without a word and went inside his dam. And they all settled by the dining table.
