As expected, Jax and Alaric were able to survive the attack from the gargoyle. The only thing that happened was that it took the knife from Alaric. You can bet that he wasn't too happy about that. Jax had wanted to go after the gargoyle, but Alaric stopped her, saying that it was too dangerous. They walked down the halls when they heard the sound of footsteps. Jax shared a confused look with Alaric. They headed in the direction of the footsteps to see one person walking down the hallway. It was Hope.
"What are you doing here?" Alaric rushed toward Hope.
The tribrid jumped from the sudden question, "Oh, my God," Hope turned to him, "You scared me!" Jax was surprised to see that she hadn't heard them. Surely her superhearing would have been able to hear them coming. Hope must've been distracted by something, probably the fact that there was no one around.
"Dorian was supposed to keep you away," Alaric told her.
"He tried. He lost." Hope said.
"Obviously." Jax nodded, gesturing to her presence here.
Jax's comment was ignored by Hope. Hope continued to speak with Alaric, "But here," Hope held out a small, thin, and old-looking book to Alaric. There was a spiral-like symbol on the front and 'Medieval French Folklore' was the title. Jax narrowed her eyes at the book with suspicion. How was that supposed to help? "Killing Gargoyles 101. He thought you could translate it." Ah, so that was it.
Opening the book, Alaric stared at the words on the page. He groaned, "Gaulish. Son of a..."
This caught Jax's attention. She looked at the book to see what the words looked like. Her eyes widened at what she saw, "Reading English is hard enough for me already, but this?" She gestured to the book, "That's crazy," Jax patted Alaric's shoulder, "Good luck, buddy." That was a whole other level of hard.
The look on Hope's face told them to get back to the task at hand. Alaric studied the book as he tried to make out what the words said. There was a moment of silence until Hope spoke up, impatience clear in her voice, "So, are we on our own, or did the Gauls provide clear instructions?"
"In a nutshell," Alaric closed the book. He let out a deep breath, "It says 'Hit hard. Repeat as needed.'" Alaric and Hope had looks of concern on their faces.
What surprised them was when Jax just shrugged and said, "Shouldn't be that hard," She did that on a daily basis anyway. The life of a demigod, sometimes it came in handy. Jax finally noticed the looks that were being shot at her by Alaric and Hope. She stared back at them, "What?"
