Lunch was just as terrible as Jax thought it was going to be. They found out the pigtail girl's name was Cheryl. Jax and Hope weren't able to ask for the other girls' names since Cheryl cut them off every time they spoke. Thankfully, Jax and Hope were able to get some answers out of Cheryl, along with two cat-ear headbands and an invitation to try out for the cheerleading team. Seeing as Jax had a bad history with cheerleaders and the fact that none of them would be here long, she wasn't going to be trying out for it.

After lunch had ended, Cheryl had been hounding them about walking together to their next class. It took a while, but the two were able to evade her successfully. They had to act like they had gotten an emergency text from one of their friends in desperate need of a tampon. Cheryl seemed to understand their predicament and let them go. Jax and Hope had never walked away from a person faster than they did then.

When walking down the hallway, the girls were able to spot Landon. He was walking down a hallway where there were barely any people. Jax assumed it was his attempt to avoid Connor or anyone else that used to bully him. The bell for class rang as the two girls caught up with Landon. The first one to speak to him was Hope, "Hey."

The dark-haired boy turned his head in their direction. He narrowed his eyes at the headbands they wore. Landon looked back in front of them and started walking again, "Let me guess. Pigtails spilled her guts and confessed to kidnapping Dana and Sasha, case closed?"

Jax laughed, "Nope." If only it were that easy. Jax would've already been out of this school if that happened. Jax was used to hostile stares from people, especially from the ones that tried to kill her on a regular basis. But the ones that these high school kids had? It was a whole other level of hostility.

"Her name is Cheryl," Hope told him. "And not exactly... But she did invite us to try out for the cheerleading team." Hope smiled as she said this. Jax knew that she was happy since this was the closest their lives would ever get to normalcy. Being completely normal was a pipe dream for them by now.

"Hate to see how she reacts when we don't." Jax placed a hand on her chest, feigning a look of disappointment. She wasn't cut out for cheerleading anyway. It just wasn't something she was interested in. Being surrounded by preppy and mean girls when she already dealt with that at camp was something she did not want to indulge in.

"Who are you guys right now?" Landon narrowed his eyes at the girls, "And what is that thing on your heads?" Oh, the headband. Jax forgot that she was even wearing it for a second.

"They're gifts from Cheryl," Hope said, reaching up to feel the material used for the cat ears.

A dark laugh escaped from Landon. He looked away from the girls like he couldn't bear to look at them anymore. He was acting like they betrayed them when all their interaction with Cheryl was to get information. "You're better than this, Hope, Jax." Jax was surprised she was even part of his sentence seeing as the two of them weren't that well-acquainted. The only times they talked was when Landon met Hope again and they brought him back to the school, along with the whole dragon situation when he and Raf bailed on them.
