It had become a lot more dark and dreary in the cabin since the discovery. The dryad had basically fallen into desperation, grasping onto any hope she could get her hands on. Oliver sat across from her as he studied the necklace with the ring. The way she stared at him had caused great sadness in Jax. It was heartbreaking to see. She had been so hopeful that she would find him and they would run off into the sunset together. It was obvious that this just broke her fantasy.
"There were so many in that grove," She leaned forward in her chair, "Do you not remember any of us?" Oliver blinked at the dryad, his face completely blank. He went back to looking at the ring on the necklace. There wasn't even a hint of recognition. It was like he was staring at a complete stranger.
"But she knew you," Alaric stated. "She knows your name, that you're a vampire..."
"Doesn't that mean anything?" Jax inquired. It's not like just anyone would know that type of information. A name? That's easy to get. But to know without a doubt that you just so happen to be a vampire? That's not something you just find out coincidentally, or even searching it up on the internet.
It didn't even seem like Oliver was going to entertain the idea. He glanced back at Dorian, Alaric, and Jax, "I'm not sure what's going on here," He looked back at the dryad, who hadn't taken her eyes off of him for even a second, "But we've never met before."
The dryad's eyes started to get red. Tears were building up and the expression on her face was one of pure heartbreak. Oliver stood up and started to leave. It wasn't long before the dryad jumped to her feet and spoke to him once more, "In the forest, there was a clearing next to the river. The bed would blossom with daffodils every spring."
All of a sudden, Oliver seemed to finally recognize something. He moved his head back a little with slight surprise. A smile spread across his face as he seemed to remember something, "Yeah, I walk there every day. It's where I proposed to my wife."
That was when Jax truly felt sorry for the dryad. She brought her hand to cover her mouth as she held back her gasp. She whispered to herself, not being able to stop the words from coming out of her mouth, "Oh, no."
The news seemed to also affect Alaric, who stared at the dryad with so much sympathy. He moved his gaze to the floor as the dryad gasped at the news. Her eyes were wider than before, "You are married..."
"Yeah..," He trailed off. The dryad shook her head, trying to blink back her tears. Oliver frowned in confusion, "Why did you ask me about the clearing?"
There was silence on the dryad's end. She tried to keep her tears at bay as she looked away from him. Jax knew exactly what that was. She knew that the dryad would probably break out into tears if she were to stare at him for a moment longer. Finally though, the dryad did meet his gaze, but her eyes were filled with so much pain, "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I thought you were someone else."
