*Kellin's POV*

I stayed up a little later than usual last night overthinking the events from school. Why did Jaime hate me so much? I never even spoke to him once and I'm already his target? Classic. But not soon after the gloomy thoughts of Jaime, I was reminded of the boy that made him leave. Oh what was his name...

I remember he called it out to me right before I pushed the doors open. I just couldn't put my finger on it.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when my mom violently waved her hand in front of my face "Kellin!" She called.

"Oh..yeah sorry. I was uh- trying to remember if I finished all my homework." I lied.

"Right...why aren't you eating your breakfast?" She questioned.

"I-I'm not that hungry" I lied again. To be completely honest, I hadn't eaten since yesterday morning.

My stomach completely showed my lie as it grumbled loudly. My mom opened her mouth to speak but I cut her off. "Gotta go! School is important! Love you bye!" I messily kissed her cheek and headed out the door.

-

I walked along the sidewalk in the direction of the school. I know what you're thinking shouldn't he have a car? In all honesty, yes I should. I'm 17. But my mom didn't have the funds to buy me my own and she needed hers for work. So here I am, 17 and still walking.

I was getting along peacefully listening to some of my favorite songs when a car pulled up beside me, slowing down to meet my pace. My first instinct was to stop walking and spot the driver. To my surprise, it was the boy from yesterday. His face told me his name Vic.

"Hey, I can give you a lift if you want?" He asked loudly over the sound of his engine.

"Um... no thanks. I have two properly functioning legs I think I can handle it." I called back with a hint of sarcasm. I really wanted to just walk. I literally knew nothing about this guy but his first name, for all I knew he could be an axe murderer.

"Oh c'mon, just let me drive you!" He whined.

I hesitated but I gave in and got in the car.

Vic drove slowly even though this car could probably go the speed of light; it was a mustang. I admired the leather seats and the polished wood, it was a pretty kickass car.

"So stranger," he started, "want to at least tell me your name?"

"Kellin." I replied.

"That's a cool name, different." He nodded as if he made some sort of mental note.

"I guess." I turned my head away from Vic and peered out the window. San Diego was so busy. Streets bustling with people and cars and vendors. I missed secluded, wide open Montana.

"How old are you Kellin?" Vic asked.

"17" I replied.

"Ah cool, I'm 18. Graduating in May whoo baby!" He hit the steering wheel in excitement. It kind of caught me off guard and I fliched harder than I would have liked.

"You don't talk much" He said calmly. I truly just wanted out of this car and to school so I could get the day over with.

"Yeah.." I sighed.

-

The rest of the car ride was awkward silence. Thankfully, a car got us here quicker than I would've walking. We arrived and as soon as the car stopped I unfastened my seat belt and made for the school. Vic came jogging up behind me.

"A thank you would be appreciated" he said in mock annoyance.

"Thank you. But then again, I didn't exactly ask you to. So unthank you." I snapped back in sarcasm. He chuckled as we met the school's front doors. I don't know what got into me. Usually I'm quiet with no sense of humor. But when Vic was around I had the tiniest light in my eyes.

"Well cya around" He said before walking into an unfamiliar class.

-

After 3 very boring classes, it was finally lunch. My stomach begged me to eat ,but I simply didn't. I pulled out a pack of gum and thumped at my growling belly making it stop.

I was getting along fine in the back corner table of the lunch room when a shadow appeared over me. I looked up to see Vic and a couple other guys I didn't know.

"Hey Kells" He greeted. Kells? Since when did I get a nick name?

The guys sat down and they all looked at me curious waiting for Vic to introduce me.

"Kellin this is Tony, Matty, and Mike; my little brother"

My eyes went wide, little brother?

"B-but you're shorter than him." I pointed out. They all erupted into laughter besides Vic that looked a bit annoyed.

"Yeah yeah I know. Everyone says that." He rolled his eyes but smiled.

"So Kellin," Matty started, "You're new here? City or school?"

"Yeah, both" I replied.

"Oh, that's cool" He rubbed his thumb over my hands gently making direct eye contact. Is he gay?

Vic confirmed my thoughts as he blurted out "Matty here is almost too gay to function"

Matty blushed a little and removed his hands from mine.

The rest of lunch we all chatted comfortably. I noticed that we all had one thing in common: a love for music. Vic, Tony and Mike, who dreamed of starting a band straight out of highschool. And Matty who had already gathered a couple guys and started his "band." They called themselves Memphis May Fire.

All too soon the bell rang for 4th period and our conversating ceased. We all exchanged phone numbers and decided to text one another sometimes. I had finally made some friends.

-

I walked home today feeling genuinely happy for once. I got away with not too much homework and I made some seemingly awesome friends. My life was looking up.
