2.THE PRINCE'S CONSORT?!

The pride of the Kingdom, Prince Kai. The prince had gone training for the last twelve years. He would be coming back to find his destined partner, who would rule and fight besides him. But a surprise awaited him and he too had a surprise.

It was rarely frowned upon when the prince would have a consort even after bonding with his partner, after all The chosen one had a choice of staying after fulfilling her duties or leave for meditation and watch over her mate and Kingdom until the next one is chosen.

He had to be received with honor and that's why Iris found herself watching the people decorating the palace from the balcony. It always amused her how people could stop worrying after a simple diversion. She was still worried about the lack of a Savior.

Iris walked besides the King and the queen. She wouldn't be enjoying the limelight or the delicacies below, she never did. Much for being a personal guard.

It would be a long night. She watched behind the head gear as her brother waved enthusiastically at her side while Kate pulled him or rather dragged him towards the back. She heard the king chuckle. She signed.... Sometimes she wished that she never joined the forces and lived a normal life.

"All arise, the Prince is arriving!"

He walked in, head held high, steps measured and steady. Grey eyes lazily roamed lazily over the gathering. He wore the Kingdom's golden head band, his white Royal Robes draped over his body pronounced a masculine body beneath. One word could describe him. Handsome. He took the best from both side.

Kai realized that everyone was quiet and looking past him to something or someone besides him.

The Prince held her hand firmly and looked up to the people who he cared enough to see their reactions. His father had aged well, he still had the aura of a warrior and her mother, as beautiful as ever.

He looked down and smiled at her, Palin. He met Palin at the Warrior's Realm, she had befriended him and since he was lonely, he could do with company. In his teenage years, he realized that he was in love with Palin and to his joy, she was too. He had begged her after training to come back with him as his consort, she agreed.

Iris wasn't a fool to not understand what was happening. She clenched her hand over her sword's handle. The audacity of the Prince! Now, having a consort was not the problem. In normal circumstances he had to get bonded to the Chosen one and she would choose a consort for him, to get a heir.

Kai had chosen a consort and that before he even came back? Was he aware of the demise of the chosen one?

"Greetings, Your highness, your majesty," he bowed before his parents. That brought Irish back to the drama before her.

Kai knew that everyone was waiting for him to break the news they all seemed to already guess..... So why not.

"My King, My Queen and the people of Light Realm, meet my chosen consort Palin."

Silence.

Iris would have rolled over in laughter at the King's expression if it wasn't the magnitude of the words the Prince had said.

King Thiessen, thought for a second that he had maybe heard something else until he looked at The Queen who was looking at the Prince to the so called consort and back to her husband.

He was confused, disappointed, angry and unbelieving.

"What!" someone whisper yelled from the crowd. Then the murmurs broke. The crowd was confused and while the King had the final say in this, they felt the need to make their stand known.

An outsider would never be the next consort, the mother to the next heir. It was unheard of and while it wasn't confirmed where the Lady came from? The idea of her being an outsider overruled everything else.

"Silence!" Iris ordered. Kai flinched.
The assembly hall went deadly silent.

Kai's eyes looked up from the king to the person who was standing next to his seated form. His father, the king always desired male over female guards when it came to the his personal guard. So he was slightly surprised and amused when he realized that the family's personal guard was a female.

She wasn't too build and maybe should have fit being a princess or a maiden, despite not seeing her face, her eyes were brown, sharp and calculating. She flicked her eyes over him and he felt self conscious.

Her eyes went hard and cold for a moment and he could have sworn that she had glared at him.

Iris was not sure if she was totally against the idea of the consort.

Palin was beautiful, her curly black hair reached well above her hip one, she also had soft facial features and her bronze skin glowed below the lights in the hall. This gave her a perfect figure for a queen. The prince had a good taste after all, iris mused.

"How could you choose a consort before your bonding? And that too an outsider?" The Queen whispered.

"I'm aware that my destined partner is not here." Kai said quietly.
