6. A Day Out

Kai turned his head towards Iris so fast he Nearly fell off his chair.

She sat comfortably on her chair, munching on a piece of bacon, not bothering to look up and see their reactions. But she guessed.... The king would be happy and so was the queen. Her father would be surprised, Kai she wasn't sure about him and by the sound of a folk hitting a plate, she knew Palin was shocked and furious too.

It was surprising how, the kingdom worked. She would hold power but was it enough for her? Was she not entitled to be loved and love?

Iris looked up after finishing her meal to find everyone looking at her.

"What?" she asked looking at them with a raised eyebrow and pushed her seat in. She decided to leave if no one had something to say.

"Wait!"
She froze mid step and looked back to the King.

"Since you two will be getting married soon, you need to at least spend time together..... Now I have to send out the news to the people."

Palin, who had been looking from the king, to Kai and back to Iris stood up and exited. The prince seeing that, glared at his father and Iris before following the love of his life.

Iris smiled to the queen who looked like she was about to say some nasty words and bowed before saying....

"As you wish, your highness." and followed the two.
Iris was one to act out of duty rather than voluntarily.

As she was about to take the left corridor towards the kitchen she hard Palin's upset voice on her right.

"she is doing this Intentionally to separate us. I know it," Palin sobbed bitterly.

"she wanted to be the queen, now she will have it and you too.... How will I survive this?"

The prince hugged her and clenched his jaw angrily. For a warrior, that lady was daring. Even though he had agreed earlier, maybe he had hoped she would refuse but she didn't.

" I will never love her,"the prince said this more to himself than to Palin. She loved him and he did too. It was just a purely political affair to marry a lady who was favorite among the people. There fake affection would end behind closed doors and he would be with Palin again. That relieved him.

He smiled relieved and let go of Palin who had long stopped crying.

No one saw Iris leave abruptly. She did not know what was going on with her. She was getting upset and easily irritated when she saw the two.

She swallowed the uneasy feeling and turned back to wait for the prince. It was there first planned meeting. She would survive. She hoped that the day would be fast and end.

"I can see you are eager to spend time with your future husband" Palin hissed behind her.

Iris threw all her good opinions of Palin out of the window. She understood her jealousy but she was supposed to understand her too.she was in a tight position too.

Iris turned to face the pair behind her. Palin's hand was securely wound around the prince's arm. They noticed her point of concentration and Palin smirked before looking at her as if challenging her to say something about it.

The prince stood their amused and surprisingly enjoying the attention given by Iris.

Iris looked up and smiled at him genuinely, "she can come along. I'm not here to spend time with you rather to follow orders."

Her voice held no malice or anger. It was even even though she was dying to beat the living hell out of them both.

They walked ahead of her, smiling, laughing and whispering lovingly at each other. Iris would be lying if she said she was going to okay with this.

Kai was always intentional. He knew what he was doing. He sneaked a glance behind them and saw Iris trudging far behind them and giving them no indication of being bothered. He did not want this, he wanted to see her bothered like he was.

He came to a stop making Palin stop and look up at him confused. She followed his eyes to where he was looking and rolled her eyes.

"she will catch up if she wants, let's go," she said as she pulled his hand but he didn't bulge.

Iris looked up to see the pair looking at her. Her eyes met the PRINCE'S for a second. He wasn't glaring. Wait what? She looked up again but he wasn't looking at her but at something behind her.

He rushed towards her and before the surprise could register he pulled her towards himself by her waist. Air was momentarily pushed aggressively out of her lungs and she let out a surprised shreak.

The prince's chest was hard, muscular and his heart was beating fast. What was up with him. That's when she heard it, a falling tree branch few inches from their feet.

All this happened in a matter of seconds and Palin watched it unfold in front of her, how The prince help Iris was the ultimum and she clenched her hand before clearing her throat

Iris jumped out of the prince's hold and awkwardly gathered a thank you before walking away from the two.

Kai didn't understand what he felt when there bodies came to contact. The feeling was different and foreign. Not how he felt when he hugged Palin.

Iris, was confused. She nearly, nearly wanted to hug the prince again. That thought was embarrassing enough to make her never go near the prince.

Palin noticed how the prince was still looking at the disappearing figure of Iris and wondered what he was thinking.

Kai would have sworn he enjoyed that moment too.
