Steve Rogers

A few months later. In Mexico. At a hotel. 

I took a sip of my drink when my phone started to buzz. 

Coulson. 

I answered annoyed "Yes?"

Coulson "We need you to come in."

I shook my head "Well, i don't want to come in"

Coulson warned  "Hayley"

I took a sip of my drink "i am serious"

Coulson "Hayley. Barton's been compromised."

I froze  "Where's Barton now?"

Coulson "We don't know."

Me "But he's alive?."

Coulson "We think so. I'll brief you on everything when you get back. But first, we need you to talk to Rogers."

Me "Coulson, you know that Stark only trusts me about as far as he can throw me."

Coulson "No, I've got Stark. You get the Captain"

Me "Coulson, i am not even in the states"

Coulson "then book the next plane that goes into the states, get Rogers and meet up with Fury"

I rolled my eyes and hung up annoyed. 

In Brooklyn. At a gym. Night. 

I walked in and saw Steve punching a punching bag. 

He really is attractive.

Me "Trouble sleeping?"

Steve "I slept for seventy years, ma'am . I think I've had my fill."

Me "Then you should be out, celebrating, seeing the world."

Steve stopped punching and walked over to the bench, unraveling the tape off his hands. 

He sat down "I went under, the world was at war, I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost."

Me " We've made some mistakes along the way. Some very recently."

Steve eyed me "You here with a mission, Hayley?"

I nodded "yes"

Steve "Trying to get me back in the world?"

Me "Trying to save it. "

Then i handed him a file on the Tesseract. 

Steve " Hydra's secret weapon."

Me "My father fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think, the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs."

Steve "Who took it from you?"

Me "He's called Loki. He's not from around here. There's a lot we'll have to bring you up to speed on if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger than you already know."

Steve "At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me."

I smirked  "Ten bucks says you're wrong. There's a debriefing package waiting for you back at your apartment."

He nodded. 

Me " Is there anything you can tell us about the Tesseract that we ought to know now?"

Steve looked at the photo of the Tesseract  "You should have left it in the ocean"
