I lean on the door frame, just taking in how absolutely gorgeous she is.
"Darling, we should get ready to go to school." She nods as I walk out into the kitchen.
She comes out shortly after in one of my over sized hoodies. I pass her a bowl, yet again with fruit.
"Trust me, this will be the last time we are stuck with just fruit, I'm going grocery shopping after school."
"Sounds good, but just so you know, I am okay with fruit."
I sit down beside her, "do you want to come with me after?"
"Sure," she seemed genuinely excited about going grocery shopping.
We both change and get ready to go, I lend her some notebooks and pencils, you know, the usual school stuff that she didn't have with her.
"I'm really glad we did the project here and not at my place," I agreed with her, but I wasn't sure how to say it, so I just nodded.
While we walk to school, I wonder what's going to happen when we get there. I know she said she doesn't care who knows, but is that really the case? She said she didn't go to her friends because they wouldn't accept her either, so I don't think she'll want them to know, which would mean hiding it. I'm taken out of my worrisome thoughts when she starts talking.
"So, did I get the best friend approval?"
"Yeah, Ryan had a really great time last night."
"Thank goodness. I know how close you guys are, and I don't want to wreck that, if he doesn't like me."
"I appreciate that, but it's all good."
We begin to get closer to the school, and I can't help asking, "are we keeping this to ourselves, since your friends wouldn't like it?"
"No, like I said, I don't care who knows, and that includes them."
I nod, as I can feel myself fidgeting. I don't know why I'm still so worried, I have never hidden my sexuality at school, which has added to me being an "outcast," but I'd rather just be me. Yet I'm still worried about what'll happen, I know this is new for Bella and I don't want to... ruin her reputation... I guess? I don't know. Let's just get through the day.
We walk down the halls holding hands, and boy did people notice. We just kept going and went to my locker, before we meet at Ryan's (which is the same everyday.)
"Do you need anything from your locker?"
"No, all my stuff is at home."
"Okay, I'm gonna leave our project in here, and I'll come grab it at lunch."
"That's a good plan."
I shut my locker and we go to Ryan's. I sneak over and lean against the locker next to his that's blocked by the door, "good morning Ry."
He has a slight jolt, "morning."
"Tired?"
"A bit, I didn't sleep much last night."
"Ryan, that's not good."
"Yup, but I snuck some of moms coffee with me."
"Better clean the mug before you go home"
"Definitely. Going to do it at lunch."
"Good plan."
Bella and I have first and last period together. So we decide to switch it around and walk with Ryan to his class first and then go to ours.
"See you outside, luv," Ryan says before heading into the room.
"As always." I smile and continue on to our class.
The morning completely dragged. Bella and I had split off after first, and I told her she could come to the table outside if she wanted, since I wasn't sure if she'd still sit with her friends, I'm not sure what she'll do.
Second and third were just boring. Normally I don't mind the classes, but today was just bluh. I don't think anyone got enough sleep last night. Once the bell rang for lunch, I honestly couldn't have gotten out there faster. I decided to run to my locker quick before hand, so I could get the project for fifth. When I get to the table, I'm still the first one outside, which was strange. It then hit me that Ryan was probably washing his mug before coming out.
When he finally comes out, he tries to get me back for the morning. He doesn't succeed, as usual.
He comes and sits across from me, "so, where's Bella?"
"With her friends, I would assume."
"You didn't ask?"
"No, I told her if she wanted to, she could come out here, she said okay, and I'm guessing she went with them."
"Why don't you text her and see?"
"I'm really not worried about it. I don't need to be with her every second of the day," I stop long enough to eat a bit, "she is staying at my house after all, so I have lots of time with her."
"Okay. Okay."
"Do you remember what we're doing in fourth?"
"Yeah, we're watching some documentary."
"Perfect, want to take some mind puzzles I printed off, to do during class?"
"Surprisingly, yes. Our teacher sucks at choosing documentaries."
"He really does."
We wait until about 10 minutes before the bell, and head inside.
As we watch the documentary we sit and do some puzzles and even pass a few games of tic-tac-toe back and forth. The documentary was about different biomes, which Ry and I have watched 2, maybe 3 times through out school. It's pretty much the go to for teachers to leave for substitutes. We thankfully only have to watch an hour today, but will have to finish it tomorrow.
We go to fifth, and it's time for our projects to be presented. Bella comes in just after us and gives me a quick smile as she goes to her seat.
We get through half the presentations, mine and Bella's included. It was pretty cool to present with her, we actually veered away from our "scripts" a bit and had some fun about it.
When class finishes, the three of us head out the door.
"I got to get going." Ry is practically ready to run down the halls.
"What's the rush?"
"Doctors appointment, so mom's rushing me."
"Okay, talk to you later."
"Yup, love you," he gives a quick "holler" down the hall.
"Love you."
I giggle to myself and take Bella's hand in mine.
"Sorry I wasn't with you for lunch."
"Oh, no worries, I assumed you went and ate with your friends."
"I didn't. They saw us and won't talk to me, which honestly doesn't matter."
"So what happened at lunch?"
"I had an exam in third, which took me a while, and I ended up eating my lunch, sitting outside my fourth period class, with about fifteen minutes left."
"Wow."
"Yeah, but I'll be outside tomorrow."
"Sounds like a plan."
"So, how do you do groceries, since you don't have a car?"
"Backpack, couple bags, I don't tend to buy much. Normally enough for a week or two, depending on sales, or if I feel like shopping in a week."
"Oh, okay."
"Yeah, so we just have to run by the house to pick up the bags, and then we can go."
"Okay."
It's honestly crazy to me how quiet she is. But I guess I feel that way because all her previous friends were the exact opposite, so I just kind of assumed she'd be at least a little louder.
We drop our stuff at the house and grab what we need to go. It only takes us an hour to go, shop and get back. Bella helps me put everything away, so we finally have some variety in food.
She checks her phone, "my parents should both be working, I can go some of my stuff."
"Okay, let's go."
"You don't have to come."
"Yeah, but I'm going to."
I grab the same stuff we brought to the store, so we would have an easier way to bring her stuff back.
When we get to her house, I'm completely amazed. It's huge. It's something I could never imagine living in, but her growing up here makes me kind of surprised she would give it up.
We go in and pack up some stuff, with her main idea being to get her school stuff. Then some clothes. We get out the door and only a few houses down when we hear her parents pull up. I struggle not to want go and say something to them. But we keep going.
When we get home I start making supper, with Bella mostly sitting on the counter, since I managed to convince her not to help. It's otherwise a chill night, we get our homework done, and lay on the couch.
I can feel her nodding off, before she sits up, "I'm gonna head to bed."
"Ok, goodnight darling."
"Night."
I go and clean up the kitchen, and grab my book. I read for a little bit, then fall asleep. Everything feels so right in my life, finally.
If only I knew now how I'd feel tomorrow.
